as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
it goes inside the chrome trim ring against the tab on the glass 'bulb' portion of the headlight. it keeps that part from rattling around...

where can i get one short of buying a whole headlight assembly and cannibalizing it?

Had an idea. Hobby shop: there's one there in Port Huron just N of the bridge on Pinegrove in that weird single building "mall."
Pick up a hunk of appropriately sized spring wire (piano wire) it's used for RC airplane linkages and landing gears.
Bend yourself up a lifetime supply of clips for about half the cost of the part.

Does your local dealer charge for shipping? Mine does not. They do practice some annoying habits like charging OEM list for aftermarket (and, sometimes, used) valve shims, but for ordering parts they're pretty good.

Ltdave;pm me your shipping address and I can send you one for free. Include a pic if you can (don't know if that is possible within a pm).
