    Howdy,

Recently bought a Maxim 550, 1982. Started up when I bought it, but had a weird problem where it'd shut off after 15 minutes or so of riding.

After a week of sitting, the starter button would no longer make the engine crank, though if I jumped the starter solenoid it would crank, but no spark.

I replaced the starter solenoid and ignition coils, but I still have the same problem, starter button won't do anything, and it'll crank but no spark if I jump the starer solenoid.

I'm thinking some sort of relay is bad, somewhere? Grounding issue?

Any tips or advice is appreciated!

Start with the fusebox, then the "safety circuit." The safety circuit consist of the sidestand switch and its relay, clutch switch, neutral switch and safety relay. It disables the bike from being turned over if it's in gear or the sidestand is down, or if it thinks those conditions are present.

Did you check the button and the kill switch?

Here are a few links that were shared with me when I had starting issues with my XJ550. Good Luck!
