    Greetings all,

Wondering if any of you have managed to equip your 650 Maxim with saddlebags? What size did you use? Any mods necessary? Where did you purchase them etc.

    Pics would be sweet too.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

Hey vintage. I have a set of bags that were with my maxim when I bought it back.

I have a pic in my gallery.

They fit under the seat and simply tie on - no mods.

The brand escapes me, but I can have a look if you are interested.

I just equipped my 81 XJ650 Maxim with Willie & Max standard slant saddlebags. Here is the website Cycle Luggage . They are: 14" W (width) X 12" H (height) X 5-1/2" D (deep). I would say they are the biggest that would fit on my XJ650 in height and width. Any taller and they would be resting on my stock pipes and any longer they would be rubbing my leg while in the seat. I had a guy make me saddlebag supports to keep them off my tire and tie the saddlebags to. Here is a link to his website. XVFinishes . I had to adjust the adjustable center yoke of the saddlebags to the shortest position and then used a little muscle and finesse when putting the seat back on the bike. I didn't have to trim anything on the yoke. I will take pictures of my set up as soon as I can. Hope this helped.

Mine came with Samsonite hardbags. I have no idea where one would find such a setup today.

I had a chance to take a few pictures of my saddlebags. Sorry but the weather isn't cooperating today or I would have made them look a bit nicer. I'm pretty sure you can see what you need to see.

Xman, thanks! Bike looks great. I see what you mean by brackets. Looks awful close to the pipe. No problems? And John I actually have a couple of ammo cans. Might be an option.

    Thanks for the input fellas.

The bags are pretty close to the pipes but I keep checking to make sure there are no problems and so far I haven't noticed a thing.
