How the heck do I get the center stand down on the Seca 750?

I cannot get the thing to go up on the center stand for the life of me, and I can actually manage to get a goldwing onto its own...

I straighten the forks, put the stand down (standing on the clutch side) and slowly lean the bike onto the center stand. Then I stand on it, pushing down, and pulling it backwards by the grab bar. I'm onyl about 155 pounds, but the bike shouldn't be so impossible to get up. I couldn't even do it with the gas tank off.

    What's the secret?

Also, I accidentally broke my gauge cluster last night thwacking it with my hand to get the speedo to stop screaming, so I'm going to be buying gauges next. Is the tach on the 750 seca ignition pulse based or cable driven?

the seca's are tricky Do you have the grab bar on the left side ?
push the stand down, pull up on the grab bar
without the grab bar there's no place to lift
try starting with the back wheel on a piece of wood, like 3/4 sheeting or a
    1 1/2 inch 2X6
    no pull back involved

I'll try that. What about the tachometer? I really need a new gauge cluster.

    ignition driven, not cable.
Make sure your bike is straight and square before you ride it !!

I barely thumped it with the heel of my hand, but it was right on the plastic cover.

It's an xj750 seca, as said in the thread title.

Looks like I get to learn how to set up an ignition timing tach!

    yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Stand trick is definitely to pull up rather than trying to pull it back

Pop- don't throw the baby out with the bath water. You can fix your instrument cluster. If you need help with this, let me know.

Word of advice, use your frustration in a constructive manner. Go rake leafs or mow the yard. I waste about an hour of my life killing aliens on the computer when I get ornery. MUCH cheaper than breaking parts.

A request, please update your signature to include the bike and your general location, you never know when help could be around the corner!

Very well said. That is how I met Bill Schmitt.

He's the one that actually taught me how to get my bike on the center stand. I thought it was a strenght issue. But it's a skill issue.

Standing on the side of the bike (not on it then pulling back like I was trying to do) center the bike with your right foot square the center stand so both sides of the center stand are square with the ground, then grab the hand rail with right hand (I grab my frame I don't have a side grab rail) and with your left hand grab the handlebar . As you pull up on the frame or rail with your rigth hand, step down on the center stand foot rest, and with your left hand pull the bike back. it should eb a 5 second job. very easy.

Lol, it wasn't an angry smack!

I just tapped it firmly in exactly the wrong place.

I hate the atari cluster anyways, it needs to go! I just use "Breaking parts" as an excuse to myself in order to uprgrade

From the looks of it, you're a much bigger guy than I am, heh.

I'm 6'3 and 155 pounds, so this is an arduous task. good workout though!

I'm still playing with it, but since I took off the rear grab bar, I'll be grabbing the frame.

FWIW I put my 81 seca on the stand without many issues, and i'm 6'2" and under 140 right now.

My stand was almost impossible to use until I lubed up the hinges really well. Age makes em stick sometimes.

On putting a bike on centerstand- - repeating Polocks advice.
I can lift my "new" Venture, and I'm a BIG guy,
or I can roll it on some 1X6 boards, front and rear, and it goes right up without any strain.

Just try using some boards once, and you're sold.

I put Turbo shocks on my 900 and it changed the unloaded height,
and the 900 goes right up real easy.

Poprider: Trust me is a technique issue. You gotta be doing something wrong. here is a link to give you and idea at how it's done.

I know the bike on the video is smaller and lighter, but it's no difference. you will just have to pull a little harder with your right hand UP. That's all.

BTW, I'm only 5'9" with boots on. :)
