Hi Guys. Im Deon from New Zealand. Just got an 80 XJ650 Special back on the road after 6 years of sitting. I also own a XS850G that is undergoing major rebuild after sitting for 10 years. Question, Is the little red idiot light with Japanese writing under it in the tacho an "overspeed" light????

MACKAZ, Welcome to the forum. I didn't get a little red light with Japanese writing on my bike. I have an 81 XJ650, US model. I have had it up over 100 mph (160+ kph) and never saw a light. Although, it is a little hard to see a little red light with Japanese writing on it when you're grinning from ear to ear!!!!

Again, welcome to the forum. It's a great place to spend some time and learn about your new ride.

BTW I don't make a regular habit of riding that fast. I had brand new tires, a wide open road and a freakin motorhome (RV) in front of me. Needed to get around and my opportunity was a long downhill stretch with several miles visiblility. Took it and glad I did! :) :) :)

The XJ750E-II I have has exactly the same thing, a large red light which comes on at 80 kph. Gave me quite a fright the first time it came on. Removing the bulb seems to have sorted that issue!
