Cam chain adjustment

    Does anyone know it the 85 XJ700 is a manual tentioner or automatic?

    I just found this thread and found it to be exactly what I needed to do to my #1 1100. The valve train was making some noise and I had just checked the valve clearance and it was still noisey. I did the adjustment and now no noise. It also seems to run better. Not sure if the chain is loose if it retards the valve timing. Just one more little thing done to make my bike run better.
    Seems like there are a few who are asking about valve train noise these last few weeks. Maybe they should check there tentioners to see if their chains are loose and making that noise.

    In my previous post I stated that my search results said "Post Not Found"
    Turns out I was clicking the wrong search button...

    Just picked up my new (old 1982) yam xj 650.
    The rattle near the front of the engine makes me wonder about the tightness of the chain.
    Is this a manual or hydraulic adjuster?
