This seems to be the place to get my xvz 1200 working right!
If I had a good wiring diagram I could probably figure this out.
    Bulbs are good.
    Switches are good.
    Fuses are good.
    Wiring is good.
    Battery is good.
    Relays are good.
    What am I missing??
    Thanks

You are just going to have to trace the wires back through the harness. You'll find it.

Are you telling me to look for 8 volts?

You probably have corroded or dirty connections or relays. Are you sure the resistance on the wiring is good?

Checking. I found that the leads going to the tail's relay coil are shorted to ground. I think one side of the coil goes to ground, the other should go to the
    brake switches

XJ's don't use tail light relays, so it's going to be a bit difficult to provide you with suggestions based on particular experience, but, typically, relays get 12V to one side of the coil, and the other end goes to a switch or relay that connects to ground to energize the relay.

4V sounds like you've got burned relay contacts in the headlight relay, burned or oxidized contacts in a plug somewher, or (if your Venture's fuse box is anything like an XJ's) bad contacts in the fuse box.

Polock's just being a smart ass in responding to your question about whether you're missing anything... you're missing 8 volts.

Thanks. Do you know if the brake switches go on the hot side of the coil or not?
Polock's a funny fellow, that's exactly what I'm missing! ha ha

    I found a Venture wiring diagram here: http://www.venturerider.org/wiring/83%2 ... ev%20C.pdf

From that, it does not look like there's a relay for your brake light. The computer is in series with it, however... probably the same type of arrangement that the XJ SECA's have: a series resistor to check current draw of the brake lamp(s) and verify that they're OK.

Looks like the brake switches get 12V from the Brown wire and feed it to Yellow wire that runs to the computer. This should result in 12V on the Yellow/Black wire running back to the brake lights.

The tail lamps get their 12V from the Blue/White from the computer. Again, I don't see any relay involved.

I found the problem on the computer monitor board-cold solder joints. I re-soldered the board and everything works great.
I found my 8 volts Polock.
    Thanks for the help.
