Hi all, I have owned my bike, an 1981 xj550 maxim for one season now and love it. It is my first bike and I plan on keeping it for a long time. I do have some questions about it though. I was searching through the yamaha parts catalog and noticed that there are two 550s, a RH and a H model. How do you tell which one I have? Also I have a few leaks that have become apparent. My tach cable seal and head cover gasket. I live in Saskatchewan Canada and was wondering if anyone new of a good place to buy parts? The dealer wants $100 for just the head cover gasket ... seems a bit steep to me.

    Thanks in advance.

Glad to meet you. I am relatively new here myself. I have found most everyone here very friendly and helpful. Especially with some of the technical mods.

I am not sure about Canadian bikes, but on the US bikes, an 'R' means Seca model, and the lack of is the Maxim.

Check out the buy, sell, swap area. I thing Chacal has the gaskets, be sure to get the bolt rubbers too.

You can e-mail him (he has a link under his signature) or PM, he'll be in touch. He also has his own forum, XJ Supporting Vendor.

welcome to the site!! check out chacal for your gasket and rubbers he had the best price I could find and the freight to canada is good too, consider measuring your valve shims first and order them at the same time, the more you order at once the less you pay in freight overall
