Re: wanna build a rat boober

You can start off by hitting edit, and change the second O in boober, to a b for bobber. Because i looks like you wanna build a biker chick instead of the bike its self. LOL ha ha ha, just kidding

Re: wanna build a rat boober

Looking back through earlier posts in this forum you'll find different member builds, for ideas. As far as tips, tricks and tuning, go to the XJ FAQ SUGGESTIONS forum, the how-to posts are GREAT  ...

Actually, I am building a bobber too. I am getting as much aftermarket parts as I can used to keep the cost down but if you don't mind ordering online, www.oldbikebarn.com and www.bikebandit.com has most of what i'll need and they are both very reliable.

Jolly, you sir are a great sport! Amazing how one leeeeeetle tiny letter can make such a difference. You have gained a lot of respect from the members of this forum by the way you handled yourself after discovering your typo.

    You are the man.

Now, Chuckles recommended oldbikebarn. Anyone here have any direct experience with them that you would like to share??

Do a search on this site for bobber and then for rat and you should find some great links with some awesome pictures that should get you on the fast track.

If you live in or near a major city you might find some parts on the cheap at a M/C wrecking yard.

This post makes me sad as I guess that the odds of me ever getting a rat boober are now about nil! :(

Good luck and successful idea hunting!

    Loren

lol no worries and thanks guys. I just got my bike in today so i'm now trying to source parts. I'd prefer to buy in canada as thats where i live right now and i hate paying duty. Some time in the near future i'll be moving back to the US but thats atleast a year away. AS for the boobers keep hunting you'll find some...lol Dont worry i preffer to strip the bike before any welding would be done anyway. I'm building a bike that i plan on keeping for along time so if i go that far i want to do it right and clean, weld and powdercoat the frame.

Jolly, since you're a welder, I'll assume you're pretty handy with fitting and fabrication. You shouldn't have too many problems. Don't know if you've heard of The Horse magazine, but they have tons of homebuilt bikes of all different flavors...American, Brit, Jap. Check out their website. One of their "how to" articles is about hardtailing a Jap bike. Think the url might be ironcross.net. I'd say rejetting the carbs and the simplified wiring diagram will be the most important info you'll need. All of that can be found in these forums. Good luck.

I'm off to drink a few cold ones and donate a few dollars to the local boobers now.
