Just want to hear horror stories. Also, it might be good for people to hear Horror stories. You tube bike wrecks really mellowed out my riding. But, just curious.
My worst experience was when my old lady and I went for a ride through the kettle moraine park on hwy 67 here in south east wisconsin. Had just passed one of those signs with the deer on it... the deer warning thingies. Coming out of the first curve after that sign and going about 60 miles per hour (speed limit is 55 there) I see, out of the corner of my eye, a buck, bolting at his full speed right into the path of my bike. There was no time for any other reaction than HOLD ON AND HOPE I GO THROUGH HIM! I didn't have time for anything but that. And I guess panic or instinct told me not to roll off the throttle, but there was no way I was avoiding this one. I hit the deer and I remember it just being very hard and fast and intense. But I also remember watching the glass from my headlight fly out in front of me like in slow motion. My first thought even before I got the bike to a stop was, Hope I can continue my ride and get home before its dark. This is as I pull the bike to the shoulder. Then my second thought was, I didn't drop the bike! Yay for me. Then as I got the bike to a stop I went to put my right leg down to steady the bike for the kick stand and my leg was jammed in the bent position... Couldn't move it at the knee, so then had to lay the bike down.
Ended up having a shattered knee cap and a tibial plateau as well as 4 other fractures in my tibia and a broken foot. The thing that really hurt, and its funny, was my toenail on the big toe. My lady was fine but in a panic.
The awful part about it was before a guy in his family s.u.v. stopped to help, two guys, not together but about a mile apart, rode past, slowed a little, then just kept riding. My bike was on its side, and I was laying on the ground so figured it probably didn't look like we were just taking a break... oh and the deer I hit was still laying half way in the lane until the cops drug him out of the road.

    My worst experience

christ man that sounds terrible, im from wisconsin i cant believe 2 people went passed without stopping thats not like us. ive never crashed on any of my bikes but the worst experience ive ever had was one day about 2 yeras ago i left home to go ride to work and in the spot where my bike should have been there was a huge plank of wood that the guys who stole my bike used to roll my bike up ono the bed of their pickup. worse than that as i was standing there bewildered/pissed as all hell while calling the police some asshole old mane came out of his house claiming he watched the guys stealing my bike.. and didn't call the polic.e holy god i was so mad. anyway they recovered the bike a month later when they caught the guy who stole it riding around with fake plates but didn't think to notify me until 5 months after that at which piont the bike had been sold at auction months before.

long story short KEEP YOUR BIKE IN A GARAGE.

my worst day was my first day.
actualy the first hour ever on a motorcycle.
some 30 yrs ago a friend had a honda enduro 250.
    he said "go for it"
after 45 mins of the best fun ever i rounded a turn too fast, saw
a parked van coming fast, and chose the curb instead.
my L-leg wrapped a tree-spent two weeks in traction to
get the bones pulled back apart-nice hunk of metal from hip to knee
inside the femur AND HOOKED ON RIDING EVER SINCE!!!!!!

in fact, as soon as i was out of the hosp i went riding on the back
of the same friends 750 down the I-5 frwy in ca. cast sticking off
one side, crutches on the other !!!

now if we ever have a car wreck thread i'll need a lot more room
for a "broken bone" list lol.

I think the worst thing that ever happened to me on a bike was when I was learning how to ride through one of the m.c. classes and the first day, while going around for some reason I nervous and couldn't figure out how to stop the bike, so I ended up rolling the thottle and jumping off. Needless to say, the instructor was too thrilled! Neither was I... I ended up ruining perfectly good pair of jeans!!!

I've had plenty of crashes, but no real injuries from them,so I'll just give a kind of funny-but-bad thing that happened to me years ago

For some reason,at the same spot on my way to work every day,for several days straight there was a swarm of bees in the road.I rode thru them every day w/o incident, other than picking lots of little corpses off me when I got to work. One day after going thru them,I noticed the pain getting worse as time went on,instead of subsiding after a minute or so.

When I got to work and checked the mirror, there were about a half dozen or so of the lil suckers sticking out of my neck. Then several hours later,I found a few more live ones crawling around under my shirt.I've never figured out how I couldn't feel them for hours

That was back in the late 80's or early 90's,and it was the closest I'd ever been to getting stung. Then last summer,I got wasps down my shirt while riding several times in the same month.I was covered in stings over every inch of my upper body, and even a few a lil lower if you know what I mean 8O .Took almost 3 months for all the swelling and red marks to clear up

Not a bad story but I tell when I get the chance.

After work several of us stopped by a local bar. I left my coat and helmet in a co workers pickup, it was about 32* and going down. :)
After we closed the bar I found out that a low life had broken into the pickup and stole my coat and helmet.

At the last red light before my house I was pretty mad, the coat I borrowed wasn’t doing a very good job keeping my ears from freezing (about 28* by now). 8O
I nailed that sucker, which isn’t all the big of a deal on a Suzuki GT750 (water buffalo).
I was doing about 60 in a 30 when a cop flashes his lights at me.
I pull over get off put the kickstand down take 2 steps and the waterbuffalo falls over in a ditch. :x

THAT pushes me over the edge, I quietly walk over to the almost upside down 750 and pick it up (evidently I’m pretty strong when I’m over the edge  ) roll it over to a level spot. Walk back to the cop car, he rolls the window down a couple of inches. 8)

I quietly tell him “they stole my helmet, coat, I’m freezing, I just got stopped by a cop, my motorcycle fell over, I’m drunk and I’m going home and whip my old lady!”
He says “ You look cold come around and set in the car.” He runs my license, it’s clean and says “Go home and I’m going to drive by your house in a few minutes and if your whipping your old lady I’ll take you to jail.”
I said “Yea my helmet and coat are gone, I’m late and drunk I’m pretty sure who’s going to get whipped when I get home.”

He just laughed said I can’t believe you just picked that motorcycle up, have a nice night!”

My worst story happened on some stretch of road in the Nevada desert. I had just stopped to take a picture of my surroundings, and went to hop back on. As soon as I had swung my legs over the seat and firmly planted them on the ground, my bike fell to the side. If you've ever seen the Simpson's episode where the tractor flips on to Homer, it was a lot like that.

What's embarrassing is that I could not lift it back up for the life of me.

Well it was 20 years ago.
I had the V65, I raced a guy off the light.
Little did I know there was a Honda CRX in my lane without tail lights.
By the time I saw he was there, I was well over a hundred.
I tried to get around him but caught the last 6 inches of the bumper.
The CRX did 360's in the road crossed 2 lanes and burst into flame when it hit the gaurd rail on the oppisite side of the road.
When I hit I flew forward smashing out the back window of the CRX, retained control of the bike smacking the guard rail twice.
When I laid it down I was just about at a stand still as the bike and I were feet apart.
Well from what the police and doctors said I was dead several times.

I think of this everytime I do something stupid.
Not really stupid but you know what I mean, take your time and get there safe.
Peace and good will to all XJer's.

My Mothers' Day 1982 collision with a Toyota while aboard my '78 SR500.

The guy pulled out in front of me and stopped; flying over the car was probably what saved me from worse injury (like the bike.)

15 days in the hospital, a shattered collarbone, 2 broken legs (one in two places, yay!) 2 broken ribs and cuts and bruises. Good thing I was wearing a helmet and leather or it would have been worse yet.

Went on a toy ride in a rural town 70 miles from my place. Done the ride, had a couple beers and decided to head home a 8 pm. Left the campground and got on the wrong road. Turned around ,was doing fine until i rounded a corner, 3 very large MOOSE in the middle of the road. I picked the smaller one and wrote my Honda Nighthawk off on the spot. Was laid up for 3-4 months. It still hurts after 4 years. Was 69 at the time. Lucky or what????
