    This got started under "prison Toilets" but since that didn't seem too appealing, I thought I would pick it back up here;

apologies to the last poster there:

My "Thanksgiving treat" was a 6-pack of Smithwick's.

Kroger's keeps putting Leinie on sale, so I alternate between that and Killian's Red.

    Oooooh my favorite subject!

    Lesseee.. Thanksgiving:
One sixpack of Pyramid "Thunderhead" IPA
A couple of bottles of Double Dog IPA
    One four-pack of Beamish stout
One four-pack of Youngs Double Chocolate Stout - my favorite beer EVAR

I didn't drink all of them on Thanksgiving, I promise!

P.S. Smithwick's is darn good, too.

Now usually, I'm either a Corona or a MGD man... I was feeling a little adventurous with a Leinenkugel Berry Weiss!

When I was in the desert Four Peaks in Tempe, AZ was the place. Nice micro brew with a patio out front. No cups just pitchers. Then again the pitchers were only $2 as I recall.

my favorite treat is the import, New castle Brown ale paired with Farmhouse cheddar cheese.

as for everyday drinking? Milwaukee's best, or Old Milwaukee is just fine for me!

I used to work in a brewery - yes, the best job I ever had - so owe a bit of loyalty to Greene Kings "Abbot ale" which is fantastic in draught but is awful in cans. It's 5% so after a few pints, the warm fuzzy glow is replaced with an urgent desire to go home before your body shuts down.

I live in Newcastle, as in Newcastle Brown Ale, we use it more as an anaesthetic than a beer 8O . It has a chemical in it that turns you from sane to insane in about an hour (or so it seems). It should have a health warning. When I was visiting the States I had a dark coloured Sam Adams Lager, forget the name of it but it was particularly good. I never knew dark lager existed before that.

I am partial to Melbourne Bitter for getting wasted on, but as for a polite dinner beer its gotta be Coopers Pale Ale or Heiniken.

I know of a pub in College Station that has 40 beers on tap, with less than 5 being of the "Bud" variety. PLus they have a slew of bottled/canned brews.

IPA = India Pale Ale. Very hoppy beer with lots of flavor, sometimes very bitter... Also sometimes very strong.

THEY DO!!! You really gotta watch the packaging. Strangest thing, being from Michigan, is they will let you carry a "naked" beer (like a 24 or 40oz) out of the store. In Michigan that's illegal, when I buy beer in Ohio and "expect" a bag they look at me like I'm from Mars (or from Michigan...)

My apologies if this thread has touched any nerves or sore spots. We had started discussing beer in the "prison toilets" thread and I felt it needed a fresh start.

That being said, I've been home for all of an hour or less and I want another Leinie.

Schooter, quit posting here; you're underage. 8O

    Cheers! ---Fitz

I'm a fan of any Imperial Stout. Aside from that, Affligem Blonde, Baltika 3, 5, 9 and Gulden Draak.

Stand-by beer: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Or anything within reach, barring cans.

My favorite type is the brown ones ie: Honey Brown, Amberbock ,and Yengling. Usually Yengling is what I buy. Sometimes I'll get a Dos Equis at the mexican restaurant. It has a nice earthy flavor that is quite unique. My favorite chaser is Balvinny Double wood scotch. It reeks of Cherry wood and Peat. A real smoky flavor, if you will, that many don't care for.

Never had a beer I really liked, I prefer my alcohol a little more concentrated. Burbon wiskey is on the top of my list, brand does no matter.

Yeah polock, yuengling is my brew they also started making Reading again (my home town!)

I also like Wheat beers or "weissbier". Franziskaner Weissbier, great stuff. I had a blue moon the other night for the first time very nice. Over the summer I had some Sam Adams Weissbier (they make that in PA now too!) and their summer ale whcih is also a Wheat beer. Wheat beers are not as hoppy or bitter as the many ales.

Also I couldn't believe it Michelob had a great wheat beer sampler out over the summer. It had four beers in it, Shocktop, which was incredible, a Dunkleweiss or dark wheat, Hop Hound, and a honey wheat which I still have 5 of the bottle left. After I drank the first one I couldn't drink another, too sweet.

Wiz, how long ago was that? OV, man, I haven't seen that in ages! It is still brewed by Molson, but it I believe it is just an eastern Canada product - I have not seen it here on the west coast.

And I enjoyed the VB when I was down under as well.

After much traveling and sampling of world beers, micro brews to large breweries, I find I drink Kokanee these days. www.kokaneebeer.ca

I prefer my own brew, and yes I know home brewed beer is like farts you can only enjoy it if its your own.
Heard that before but when I have people over beer drinkers always ask if there is some brew to sample.
Unfortunately brewed to my preference it works out that it is 7.2 percent so no beer if you are driving any time soon.Drank it for years before I measured the alcohol content.
Prefer Lagers myself, dont drink anything I cant see through, heard a lot of names I will probably never get a chance to sample although Sam Adams Boston Lager was quite nice too expensive to buy regular though off the shelf stuff I like Crown,Corona,Boags premium.Tried some kiwi beers I like a few of the Montieths range not so big on Steinlager, Alive.

I think I have only found one beer which I didn't really enjoy. It was a cranberry-something in a Sam Adams winter sampler. Of course I did end up drinking them. Favorite beers are probably Shiner Bock and Dos Equis Amber, everyday domestic would be MGD, Castle is a good import, and my favorite beer cocktail is a Guiness with a a shot of vanilla vodka. Spirit wise it's pretty hard to beat a nice bourbon like Maker's Mark. Basically, I'm a fan of anything alcoholic and not overly sweet!

I drink VERY little alcohol but when I do I drink one of 4 things.

1.). Red beer. Budshcwiller and Clamato juice! Umm umm!
2.). Local microbrew called Terminator Stout, preferably on nitro. Very dark and chewy. Like butter with nitro instead of on CO2.
    3.). Guiness! 'Nuff said
4.). Single malt scotch at least old enough to vote!

It's now 7:15 am. Worked 12 hrs last night. Where's the Clamato juice?

I can't stand the taste of anything alcoholic, so I don't touch the stuff at all.

As for the thread, I'm pleasantly surprised it hasn't turned into a dreaded Beer Snob thread -- "My beer is better than yours because it's obscure and nobody else drinks it" or something along those lines.

    Oops... too late.

But, while I don't drink, I will offer this in America's defense:

Like many a Farker, new Sam Adams Utopias beer is already banned in 13 states

27% ABV. Enjoy your hangover, folks. :)

I didn't say it because I thought it was obvious to all on this thread.

Terminator on nitro is THE BEST! Nothing else comes close! 8O 8O 8O

It's not that there's no good beer here in the States. You can get just about anything here... It's just that companies that make cheap, light beer (like Anheuser-Busch) spend a LOT more money on marketing, and are not afraid to adjust the alcoholic content of their beverages to satisfy various U.S. markets (like the 3-point swill here in the South).

Also, it's a matter of taste. Some people prefer lots of flavor, strength, hoppiness, etc, while others simply look for something cheap and cold. The majority here in the States tend to like the latter variety, which is completely fine with me, as long as I can still get the good stuff :)

P.S. if someone hands me a Budweiser, I will gladly drink it without prejudice, because free beer, is indeed, the best beer in the world.

If price is a factor, Yeungling is the tastiest beer for the money. If I've got the money to spend, any Dogfish Head variety (but particularly Punkin' Ale this time of year) or Stone brewery beer will do just fine. I totally agree with stereomind - Microbrews can't spend the money on advertising, but if you are looking for complexity and flavor, they're great. But there is nothing wrong with any beer you choose. If it tastes good, drink it!

My favourite drop is Coopers Pale Ale from my home state of South Australia. Extra cold served in a glass....fruity hopped heaven.

Otherwise a Carlsberg or chase down a local small brewers latest creation for a change.
