The bugs around here are smart; they aim for your throat.

Oh, those love bugs are fatal! I spent too much time in California and had forgotten them.

Pretty much anywhere in the south, especially at night, you'll get a lotta bugs.

One day after a short ride I took my helmet off, and saw that a huge horse fly had gotten wedged in between my visor and the helmet. Must have happened right before I flipped the visor down. Good thing it didn't hit me in the face!!

I usually have to stop every hour or two and clean off my visor if I'm riding out in the country.

    Don't ride behind big trucks.

The regular container and closed-up long boxes on the 18-wheelers cause enough turbulence to get small pebbles and other debris airborne.

Livestock haulers will ruin your day with "That smell" ... or, some "Matter" will be introduced to the atmosphere off the back of the hauler that is most unpleasant riding into.

RV's with stuff "hanging" off the back or overloaded on the roof and tied-down with kite string, Band-Aids and shoe laces.

Behind cars with exhaust systems scraping and sparking or about ready to fall off.

You really have to watch out for birds, So far both my father and I have been hit by small birds. He was hit in the hand, he had gloves on and it gave him a nice bruise and some gashes on the knuckles. I got hit in the chest, but I had my leather on so no damage, but its like being punched hard by a really big pro wrestler. :)

I don't know how guys can ride without a full face helmet. I see Harley guys gunning down the highway, sunglasses in place, undoubtedly eating bugs. I know on my way back from Canada, my face shield was covered with them.

Yeah, I could see windshield/open face helmet, but the guys with no windshield and an open face...

I know I've been smacked with enough things I wouldn't want to do it. But then again, I would still wear a full-faced helmet, but that's already been covered in several other threads...

I from time to time go with out a helmet, especially on really hot days. But I think as I get older and wiser I totally appreciate the benefits of a helmet and realize that when I do wear one, people who I stop and chat with dont look at me like I have bugs in my teeth as much!

I'm seriously looking for a good pair of chaps. I was hit in the knee with a June bug at 75mph and MAN! That hurt! I can't imagine getting hit in the face with one.

Washington is actually not too bad for bugs. I can usually ride with my faceshield up (unless it's below freezing or raining). I did catch a bee on the very tip of my nose one time at highway speeds. He was dead before he could actually sting me, but it felt less than fantastic! One thing we might have more of out here are trucks carrying wood chips in mesh trailers. You don't want to follow them to close!
