Ok well some of you guys know I was working on a cb750 bobber, and I loved that thing, then the engine became toast and she's sitting right now, well I stumbled across a cb900c turned into a quad for cheap, he says it runs great.

So, I'm in college cash technically is tight, but I have a $5000 paycheck from the farm for working over the summer (at 5 bucks an hour, not bad for 14 weeks) so I should be able to have 1000 to myself 4K for college seems fair, and im either going to buy said quad because the 900 will drop right in, for 500 bucks, and sell all spare parts for about 300 maybe +-.

    Does this ot sound logical?

but I was thinking if my parents wont let me touch my money, I could do some trading with my seca 750... personally enen though the bike is new, I love that cb more,

so what do you think my seca is worth?

It now runs, though carbs need to be adjusted. tank is toast, front brakes were cleaned by me (I hope I did it all right) but everything else is good on the bike. Of course it need tires, they're origional. I'm guessing it could fetch 500 easy, esp in the summer.

so xj community, what should I do?

btw, for those that have not seen my bobber this is how far I got

This is pretty much how it now sits, though in boxes in our barn:

Completely irrelevant to your questions, but I love the way that seats flows in to the tank.

I know rite? this bike would look so good put together.. it reminds me of a 50 caddy or something, like cruella deville's car or soemthing, I had tail fin mufflers 50's bullet lights, and so on.

But consider this thread closed, The guy sold the quad..

The solution to your problem is pretty simple. . .
You ride your running , 1,800 mile old Seca.
You continue to store and fix up your classic Honda.
You search for a motor that will eventually turn up.

schooter, you might want to check first but I think that 900 might have a shaft drive

wiz, I've been keeping my eye out for cb750s ever since I messed up, there were probably 10 tops over the summer for sale in my area, non as cheap as that, and it was a 900... thus more power, and i believe the 900's dont use cv carbs, allowing for more play

Look for any 4 cyl' motor, any brand, then make up the engine mountings to suit, think outside the box.

That's the bike he's got. $600 for a motor and spares is not bad - you can always sell the leftover stuff after you finish your bike.

You have to look where the bike is geographically, Hillsy, the Scoot is in the frozen North.

I re-read your quandry, Schoot; and I would stay away from the "900 turned into a quad." Talk about asking for trouble, gearbox/clutch wise.

What about the cb750 is "toast?"

Just keep your eyes out for a wreck with the engine you want. You just have to be patient. Then you can part it out, and usually get the motor for free. I just picked up an XJ900 for $500 running. I only wanted the engine. I am sure if I kept the engine, and parted it out, I could get more than $500 for the remaining parts.

The bike is pretty much complete. I am not quite sure what I am going to do with it, but because of it rarity, I jumped at it.

Try craigslistbuddy.com it is free, and will email you everytime a keyword is posted on craigslist, it emails you. I picked up my Seca - street ready for $400, and a few dirt bikes for less than $50. You just have to be ready to move that day.

I know of a guy in Romeo that has a bunch of bikes in his shed. He may have something for you a lot cheaper than EMC.

Thanks guys, the only thing is, I'm not able to move the day I see it, I wish, but im at college, I have to deal with parents, and i have to deal with parents

Fitz- the original engine wasnt really toast, it burned some oil, and from the estimated pats and repairs, woulda cost about 600, so I bought another engine, which I needed to rob some parts for it from oy old engine... and my cousins got the impression they could tear into the engine.. so the origional eneinge is in pieces and this engine is seized..

    wesley ill check that out

Good advice to continue your mods and restore while watching for a good engine. CB 750's don't seem to be rare. My son in law picked up a VERY clean 78 with an 81? engine in it for $300. Not sure of the engine year but it was DOHC. He rebuilt the 4 carbs and it is now a good daily runner.

Be patient Grasshopper Schooter and good things will come to you.

In the meantime enjoy the holidays and enjoy your time at school. These are truly the best times of your life!

    nice lookin bike, BUT
    1. its an SOHC, wont really work
    2. 41K miles? No thanks, these engine require alot of adjusting, which may or may not have been done, usually not

those aside, its a nice looking bike that probably will fetch close to what he's asking
