Has anybody bought one of those ss bolts sets off of ebay? I was thinking it might be nice to replace the grungy, oxidized bolts on the motor.

there's another way to go, order the bolts in bulk and use what you need and
sell the rest here or keep them and have SS bolts forever
beware though, it's addictive soon you'll have SS everywhere :)
once you have them in the motor it makes all the others look worse
Fitz would be the exception, i don't know how he does it they all look new

Google "Bolt depot" You can get them in bulk or one-at-a-time.

If price is no object Ace Hardware also has some.

If you are bent on keeping your original hardware, you can send it out to have it all restored. There are many places that will recoat zinc, black oxide and cadmium plating (although the number in this lovely state shrinks by the day :)). It costs a fair penny so buying new SS is probably more cost effective and SS shines right up on a buffing wheel. Choose your path and makes your choice says I.

You have to buy in bulk, but Fastenal.com has any bolts you could need. I bought a bag of 50 bolts for the engine for $.30 a bolt.

I have found that chucking the stainless bolts threads in a cordless drill and spinning them on an old cotton sock,t-shirt,or paper towel (with a small dab of Simichrome or other quality metal polish) makes the bolt heads look better than chrome. Go easy with the polish (a little bit goes a long way) to avoid getting polish in hex socket. A corded drill could probably be used, but I feel a cordless gives more convenience and better speed control.

I bought the Stainless Engine Kit and the Stainless Carb off Ebay.
    Love the look.
    Love the PRICE!!!
The stock fasteners are just crap, soft steel.
Go for the Stainless and don't look back.

    +1 for danno.
I used a buffing wheel and jewelers rouge on the OEM
alt cover bolts and they came out as stated above, "better
    then chrome".
But i like the idea of just replacing the old ones, alot less work.
