noisy timing chain

    My 81 XJ550 Maxim has a little bit of a timing chain noise at @4000 to 4500 rpm. Does the 81 550 have a manual adjuster or auto adjuster?

    Last time I looked, it was manual. But that was a VERY long time ago. Hit the Haines manual or bounce off of bikebandit.com or the Yamaha site to check it out. If there is a spring loaded plunger showing, it's automatic. I'm going to have to put a copy of my Haines manual next to my CRT soon. Good luck. Rob.
