So I went bike shopping and put a suzuki hayabusa on layaway... had $4,500 on it already and decided last night to back out. Too many reasons to list. I am going to lose $500 but its fine by me.

No, actually, the lizard company we all see on t.v. quoted me a nice full coverage plan which included personal injury and passenger injury for about $130/month. Less than I expected.

I am 30 years old, have 1 year licensed experience (never had a license but rode... then got pulled over so....) and have the Basic Rider Course under my belt. That was the best price I could get with the full coverage I wanted. I have a perfect driving record except for 2 speeders but over 3 years ago.

One of the things that changed my mind is the calculated yearly cost of owning a busa. With the amount of riding I do (at least 8,000 per spring/summer alone, It would cost close to $4,000 in insurance, tires, maintenance, etc. per year.

My xj Maxim is cheap, fast enough, fun as hell, and I know it pretty well. It's yearly cost with insurance is about $400. Well, I am putting a lot into it this year, but still... It was my very first street bike and it has outlasted everything else I have owned.

I think mine for my xj550 is $170 per year. I don't remember because it is with our car insurance too. But the total yearly cost which includes the maintenance and insurance is about $400 per year.

WOW, that's a ton of money. I paid $50/month full coverage on my 99 F4 NEW. I now pay $95/year for my magna and the same for my X. Full coverage? No, why? because the insurance company puts it's worth about $300, and we all know if the bike gets hurt and we make a claim, you might as well put a salvage title on it....

What insurance company are you guys going through? I had progressive on my vstar 1100 and paid $43.00 per month for full coverage.

The cheapest full coverage insurance I can find for my '95 Ninja 1100 is $237 per month. I have checked progressive, geico, and all the other major companies and so far progressive is the cheapest @237. Thats for a married 22yo with a clean driving record. I think my biggest issue is age as most companies wont cover riders under 25.

It sucks that one years worth of full coverage will cost more than I paid for the bike originally plus the money I have spent fixing it up.

Chuckles---the 1300r's are nice bikes and crazy fast. Parts for them just cost too much for my budget and everyone I know who owns one has rebuilt the engine at least once. If you get in the market for a big fast bike that wont break the bank check out the Kawasaki ZX11s or ZZR 1200s. They are much cheaper to purchase and maintain as parts are common and used parts are plentiful. I love my 11 because theres not another bike on the market that can replace it. It is comfortable on long rides, handles well, and if you twist the throttle it GOES! With a bike that powerful it all depends on the drivers ability. Theres nothing like blowing away a brand new 10-12k bike on something you have less than 3k in.

I agree with "the insane one". Plenty of used and not abused bikes out there that carry a ton of power for less than $4k. I have about $3k into the Vmax and I wouldn't trade her for anything. Goood luck and Merry Christmas.

wtf!!??? Just seen this thread and thought I would chime in(I know it's been dead for awhile). I pay $75 for full coverage per year on my bike with a $100 deductable. My insurance guy asked me what my bike booked for and I just blurted out 1500.. lol Hopefully I don't ever have to find out what they would really pay me but I still thought that was a great price for a year. He almost got me to go with liability because he didn't think full coverage would be worth it. But I made him check into full coverage. The liability was the same price as my full coverage. So make sure you at least check into it.
