    hello all,

well, i just purchased a yamaha xj with the hopes of giving it a little tender lovin' care, making sure everything runs well and operates properly.... :) then i will take out the chop saw and hack it up into some mutant bobber/chopper thinggy  , (the purists here are going to hate me) but to each is own...

i just wanted to add that i am very happy to find that such a forum as this exists. i would like to thank you all in advance for the information i will be gathering from this site along with any possible future friendships.

    Welcome. Great bikes.

    Some suggestions:

    - put your year/model in your signature. That way when you ask a question potential answerers will know which bike you have.

    - put your location in your profile. You might have a neighbor that could help out in a pinch.

    Welcome aboard!

Don't worry about the purists. (I'm sort of one myself, for my own bike) THere are great looking bikes here that look nothing like stock. It's all good and it's YOUR bike.

bike and location should now be up.

and i hope the purists don't mind because the bike i have is pretty rough, i have always wanted to chop a bike and don't really want to do so on the bike i am currently making payments on. so if this one goes beyond fix-ah-bility then i will only be out $25 bucks plus whatever parts.

    thanks for the "weclome aboards"

Well, I'm a purist, but if you want to cut one up it's good that it's a rough one. A little bit of me dies when someone posts a picture of a mint one and can't wait to take a saw and torch to it.

Lol carl. I've always wanted to chop a bike too. One day one day.
Welcome to the Forum! Great place. I'm sure you'll find everything you need in short order.

this is pretty much an engine, trans, frame, wheels and not much else. some of the electronic stuff is there but that will be the hardest part for me. half the time i can not figure out how to hook up the DVD player.... another reason i would like to go barebones with the bike. try to keep it simple so i can work on it.

and i wanna smoke my buddy's sportster cause he talks so much trash about metrics. i can already do that with my honda (he has 450cc more engine then i do) but i wanna do it again cause he still talks trash. and from what reasearch i have done the 750 4 cylender has twice the power of my current 750 V twin bike. so this could be really fun!

I guess I am a purist as well, but this forum has a terrific mix of riders and bikes. It is very active and very helpful. Regardless of what you do to the bike you have picked one of the best engines Yamaha has ever built. Another thing about this forum---the members cover a very wide age group. A pretty neat mix/bunch.

I agree with mike. My bike is pretty much stock, but the beauty of bikes is that's they are all about a personal touch. I like the looks of the bobbers very much, but can't ride a rigid frame bike because of a jacked up lower back. Welcome to the site by the way. There's tons of stuff you can learn here and plenty of knowledgable guys on here. Take care and put up step by step pics of your project.

Welcome to the forum Stove B! A great bunch of guys here I can assure you. Saw 2 bikes in front of a neighbors house the other day. One was a very nice box stock 650 Maxim, the other was an exquisite Yamaha 650 Special chopper.

I'll try to get and post pictures.

well, i have heard some debate as to the definition of a bobber as well as the definition of a chopper. so in an attempt not to confuse anyone i used the best description i could....

or to be cute about it i could say i am making it "custom" people seem to like that.

now could someone tell me if the xj 700 rims will fit the 750? lol :)
