Just watched it again (4th or 5th time). Gets better each time! Don't know how much of it was real or Hollywood. One determined man. Do remember when he set the record in '67 (year I graduated high school). It still stands...

It's definitely real. I bought the book (after I saw the movie). Most of it is real, some of it dramatization...I love this movie.

Awesome flick. Sir Anthony Hopkins did an awesome job.
Also, the documentary about Burt Munro is worth watching. I mean, the guy casted his own aluminum pistons, forchrissake....

The movie was a combination of events Burt Munro made on many trips to the salt lakes.

After the initial trip he left the chassis and bodywork with friends in the USA and returned with the motor to New Zealand where he carried out further mods each year.

The bike now resides in a hardware store (E. Hayes & Sons) in Invercargill, New Zealand. Basically few outside the motorcycle fraternity new about his acheivements until the movie came out. My friend Murray grew up in Gore (not far from Invercargill) which was not a big place (still isn't) with stories about his exploits on roads in the region.

No problem. After the movies release his profile amongst "non bikers" increased hugely. The City of Invercargill now holds an annual bike event every November. The Bert Munro Challenge is a weekend of speed on two wheels with beach racing on Oreti Beach, sprint races at Teretonga Raceway, speedway racing at Oreti Park Speedway and the Wyndham Street Race.

I rented Worlds Fastest Indian, watched it last night and felt compelled to express my admiration and utter amazement regarding Burt Munro.

I did a little research, and the more I read about him, the more amazed I become. Not only did he cast his own pistons, he shaped cam shafts out of solid tractor axles using saws and files. Fabbed his own cylinders and cooling fins. The list goes on.

My dad instilled in me the trait of making what you need from what you have. I have tried to pass this along to my son. I'm kind of baring my soul here, but in a few short hours, Burt Munro has become for me, an instant icon. There should be a shrine erected to him and his traits of incredible perseverance and dedication. Don't worry, I'll stop blabbering now.

You folks in New Zealand should be proud.

I received WFI as a gift last Christmas and watched it over and over.

Even if you aren't a biker, you gotta love the movie.

I see it as one of personal trials and triumph.

Anthony Hopkins did an outstanding job portraying Burt.
