top end on my bike was clocked at 117, it was more fun going from 55 to 75 though. Once I replaced my clutch tension springs it sang at 6000 to 8000 rpm. Didn't know they would make that much difference, they were about 2mm compressed. This winter I'm replacing the cam chain and checking the rings while I'm at it so I'll let you know after that gets done. I really don't care about the top end its getting there thats the blast :)

Bike has 6 gears. It will go 65mph in 3rd gear. All I need to know.

Back in the day most of the magazines tested the Turbo to 138 with the power-up kit. It also has the Federally mandated 85MPH speedometer! Clearly Washington has not gotten any smarter in the last 25 years.

I've gotten Maxine up to 110. I get a little braver each time. Scares me sometimes the power of this thing. One day I'll probably blow her out. That'll be a sad one

I don't drive my 750 Maxim on the highway much - mostly a city bike. I can tell you, unless you're in a new Porsche 911, or a sub 5.0s 0-60 car, all you see are my tail lights every time. Sometimes it scares me with the launch power.

I've had my bike up to 110mph with lots of rpm left for the throttle too in 4th gear. I'm guessing I could of had it up to 130mph but that is very unwise on a bike that is over 26 years old. :)

Be ready if you pull up beside a Subaru WRT STi 0 to 60 5.1 or a Mitsubishi Evolution (Lancer) 0 to 60 5.3.
    Here’s my 4 wheel best 0 to 60 1991 300ZXTT light mods a couple of yrs ago.

    Hey Mestnii,
I got an 85 Maxim XJ700 stock...got it going about 117 mph and called it quites. I don't think it had much else but neither did I. I won't be doing that much again, I'm liking living and being able to see the world around me.
P.S. I really enjoyed your trip to CA thread...you are an excellent writer...very captivating.

To anyone who has yet to do "the ton" , this guy is going 100 MPH on a pulse jet bicycle with little gear or brakes. It's a bit loud.
Check out his various vids on Youtube.

Or 146 MPH using a more traditional rocket. Still on a bicycle.
    Be safe, of course.

And you can go 82 MPH on just a half horsepower.
We need to work on our aerodynamics !!

I've had my 650 to about 105, thanks to my buddie's speedo. And, that was -about- all she had for I wasn't going to wrench the guts out of her. And with no fairing to speak of ... that was frickin wicked. Plenty fast enough for me.

I agree that the majority of fun though is in the legal speed range, which only sucks a little bit.

I've seen 245 km/hr (flat out), on both of the XJ900s I've owned. A bit over 150 m/hr. Just to see what they do.
Dunno how accurate the speedos are.
The scenery kind of explodes at you at that speed.
I don't think I'd do it these days.

I've had my 650 Maxim up to about about 115/120 MPH. I weighed about 245-250 lbs at the time. And on grooved pavement as they had the highway prepped for re-paving. There was some throttle left too, but the rpm's were up there. Too bad these bikes didn't have a 6th gear/OD.

I have an 82 750 Maxim that I've made some pretty minor upgrades to (Header with Straight pipe, removed Airbox and installed Pods on Factory Arbx Boots, Rejetted Carbs to #130, installed new Clutch Plates with 30% Stiffer Springs, and was able to cut the weight down to 455 with full Tank) and it has responded very well. 0-60 in 3.7-3.8 (Depending on My launch) and My Speedometer Claimed 143 in 5th Gear at 9000rpm. I didn't believe that for a second so I had My GPS Speedo on and it claimed 136. It will wind out to around 12k if I let it, but every time I've done that was on Accident.. I also have Nitrogen Rear Shocks with the front end lowered 3.5 Inchs. Its no R6, but it's a blast on a nice winding back road.
