XJ progress

    Got my head cleaned up and the valves ground. Check out the head stands my son loaned me. The rod on each is tapered and sticks in a bolt hole. really simple and leaves plenty of room for the v spring compressor.

    This is the new fuse panel installed with 90deg blade connectors.

    The plastic logo was nearly all peeled off so I sprayed it "Alumablast"

    How smooth are the intake and exhaust ports on these heads? Can they benefit from a sandpaper roll on a die grinder polish? Can you post some pics of the intake and exhaust ports?

    The alumiblast looks pretty good on the fork emblem but you should consider painting the "Yamaha" black. think that would make it "POP"

    Sorry Jim, already got the head bolted on but I can tell you porting would surely help in the high range if your racing. They are pretty rough with flats and cast blems.

    Sweet... I switch between mechanics and cosmetics. Get sick of sanding so I move on to the other stuff. Working on trying to get the old carb joints out. Not and easy task.

    You can "Bring-Out" the YAMAHA Lettering by adding a contrasting color on the surface of the Badge surrounding the letters.

    Steal some latex gloves from the Dr. Office.
    Put the glove on tight.
    Drip a few drops of a nice color paint on a 3X5 Card
    Spread the drops out on the card with the edge of a razor blade.
    Touch the color with a tightly gloved fingertip.
    Transfer the color to the Badge using a "Fingerprint-Roll"
    Change gloves frequently
    3X5 cards too!
