rare... vintage ... Yamaha 400 twin with ripped seat, bashed gas tank and NO title. Wow.

    This is your motorcycle's value.
This is your motorcycle's value on drugs.
    Any questions?

His "0" key must be sticking and the decimal point ended up in the wrong place. Gotta be $450...

At $450,the decimal point is still 1 place east of where it should be.

I e mailed him and said I had less in my maxim x, and it looks a whole lot nicer than that. I also mentioned that he might want to justify the $4k in 'restoration' (cough...cough) fees by listing what has been done. And being bent over a barrel when you buy it doesn't count....

Brian, my bike has been restored, literally from the ground up. I’m not knocking your bike, if you can get that, go for it, but after it showed up on a xj forum, it hasn’t really been the, um, talk of the town as far as how nice it was. My bike…new tires, brake lines, master cylinder, rebuilt calipers, all new fluids, fork seals, grips, completely repainted, exhaust, valve adjustment, repainted frame, k&n filter, carb clean, sync, plugs, wires, dyna coils, seats recovered, back rest, battery, anything that needed replaced was. I’ve got $3500 in the bike, and I could maybe get 3 for it, and it was only made for 2 years and is considerably less available than yours. Here is the link to the site I speak of. Your bike would probably do better in the $1500 range. I have no use for an older maxim…I’ve got the one I want.

If those are "after" pictures it looks more like he spent $4K on beer while he "thought about" restoring it!

    I sent him this.
I know it's mean but I couldnt resist. He's probably spent half the cash on the strength of all the interest he's had in the bike!!!

And pods? He probably can't get the carbs right.

I paid $300 for mine and it was in better shape than that when I bought it.

I think that guy put his bike together from the old XJ parts I gave away a while back.

Besides, ridiculing outrageous pricing is an American right! I do it all the time for cars, houses, furniture, restaurants, bike parts... oops.

Markie, careful using the word "twat" on this forum. Has a wee bit of a different meaning here in the colonies! It refers to a certain southern part of a females anatomy. Over here we would use the word "twit". Which probably refers to a certain southern part of a females anatomy back in the old country!

Editors Note: Since the meaning of "twat" in the USA was geographically defined for our Member in UK. The term "twat" as used in the UK is defined as: "A person regarded as stupid or obnoxious." Hense, it's use by the Member from UK is NOT a Terms violation.

    Merry Christmas all!

Hey... I have pods on mine! But also have rejetted and retuned the carbs to suit the change... Hahaha... and I think that costed me more than the bike is worth. But hey!... I'll sell mine for $4,500 if this guy can. I'll even throw in a bridge for that matter. Poor guy.

Hmmmm, never seen rust shine right up. Get a kick out of guys that think just because it's old it's worth a lot of money. It's even funnier when you point out the bike is crap to them and they get all upset. Responded to a guys ad once that said the bike was mint. He didn't like it when I pointed out the dents, missing lights and side panel. Told him I would hate to see what his idea of fair condition would be.

Wamaxim, I lived the first 50 years of my life in UK & can assure you that word has the same meaning in the UK as the USA, not used in polite conversation.

ok guys i just sent this to him:

    Hello good sir,

I was perusing craigslist, and your add caught my eye.
Do you know how long I've been looking for a maxim 650?
In these parts those bikes are pratically made of unobtanium.
I understand the rarity, but you've stated that it is a restored motorcycle, thus assuming is is near "mint", so i think you've mistakingly posted the "before" pictures up, may I please have the after pictures? where the head pipes arent rusty and well, as a restored bike, the bike would have no rust.

also, do you have receipts of the 4000 you spent on restoration? and the code of the factory color you've chosen to paint it, because, as an avid xj collector, i know blue was never a factory option.

The dyno charts would also be appreciated, because, if the bike was restored, you did go through the engine, right? grinding the valves, cleaning otu the carbon in the engine, and new rings, at least? From the factory the xj650 produces 73hp @ 9000 rpm and 42lb/foot @ 7200 rpm, so if your numbers are lower than that, I would assume little to no engine work has been done, or if its over, you probably souped it up, not using factory or "NOS" parts, you know what those are right?

Also the mileage after restoration would be appreciated, and the total miles would also be nice.

So as soon as you send me those pictures, and some kind of documentation, I would LOVE to come by and plog down 45 benjamins and take that bike home, as a mantlepiece in my living room.

Peace in the Middle East, hope to see you soon!

I'll post back with his reply

Ahhh, let the guy alone. He'll have it on sale on CL for a while and then in about 6 months or so we can buy his "parts bike".
