Valve cover scratches

    When I removed my valve cover everything looked pretty good and clean inside. The chain was snug and appeared to be in good order.

    However, I noticed that there was a chain drag on the insdie of the cover. Like it hit the cover at some opint. Perhaps the PO snapped a chain? Nothing seems loose.

    Is this normal?

    i saw the same thing on my 750, looked like it about 10 or 12 marks
    i set the cam chain tension and tried to forget about it, that was two years ago
    i forgot about it, now i'll have to forget again :)

    I have the same scratches, thought about em, put it back together and ran it. Can't say that the interior cover scratches are a problem but will assume this is normal.

    yeah it was a bit funky, hate to think where those filings ended up. Maybe the magnet fairy swooped down and whisked them away. ahhhhhhhhhhhh

    hmmm... don't think a magnet would have any effect on aluminum filings...

    Most of these bikes, at some time or another in their dark and mysterious past lives, have had a loose cam chain for a bit; that's where the marks came from. One of the things most of us do right away in the course of our initial tune-up, is adjust the camchain.

    No worries.
