I am new to Motorcycles, but have been a motorhead all of my life. I recently purchased a Kind of running 1982 Seca 750. When I say kind of running, it would start fine cold but once it started to warm would not run.

I am starting with carb cleaning following the faq on this site. I ran in to my first problem right away. The 3rd fuel jet I pulled has no thread insert in the stand. It doesnt look like it ever did. the bore is smooth. Were these press in or thread in? Can a new one be put in, or is my carb set junk?

    Any help would be GREAT!

    Thanks!

I think I know what your problem is, If this is the main jet (the one with the washer) that is "stripped, then you're either missing the emulsion tube, or that is stripped.

now, if this is the emulsion tube, to remove it, you need to pull off the carb hat, needle, and remove the jet, tip the carbs upside down, and it should fall out. you need to make sure all those hole are clean on those emulsion tubes! your bike wont run right if they're not clean

It's still unclear to me what we are dealing with.

Could you include a photo? Please.

Picture showing what I think is a threaded insert that the main jet threads into

Picture showing the carb "missing" the threads

Thats what I am looking at. Nothing came out with the jet, nothing fell out of the carb. The jet "broke" free with no effort (not sure what was holding it in to begin with)

    So is the carb junk?

Never mind... I see it now. I slid down the bore but does not seem to be able to slide out the end. Is this normal?

Sorry all, I feel like a doof...

those carbs need to be cleaned... I see why it didnt thread... the emulsion tube slid down... if you look in the "tunnel" (thats what i call it) of the carb, the main part, you'll see a little brass part sticking up from the botton, use a screwdriver and push it down and you can thread the jet in

That Brass object with the threaded-end is called the "Emulsion Tube"

They are lightly-pressed in from the TOP of the Carb.
You will have to REMOVE all four and clean them.

The easiest way to remove them is to TAP them out through the TOP.
I use a long Cap Screw with the same thread.
Screw it into the bottom of the Tube and lightly drive it out the top.
You have to remove the Chrome Top, Spring and Diaphragm to access the Top of the Emulsion Tube.
