    Hey Woodzie,
I've got both sets but they're pretty dirty. I don't know if the brake pistons are seized. I'll check tonight when I get home and send you a photo.

    Hey Woodzie,
The pistons on both front calipers are seized right up. You still interested?

baz I was really needing the spring that sit above the pads as mine have come up missing. But I don;t know if you can get them out without getting the pistons seated in their bores. Let me know what you think. Thanks

You mean those flat copper things, with the little squiggle type curls in the them? I think they're called anti-squeal springs or something. No probs. I think I've got a pair somewhere. If not, I'll pull them off the parts Seca and send them to you, no charge. They can't be more than a dollar or two to mail. Give me your address and zip.

    Hey Woodzie,
Is this what they look like? Let me know and I'll send down both sets for the front calipers.

    Hey baz,
I cant remember exactly what they looked like but I know they were on top of the brake pads so the pads don't rattle. Do you have a caliper to put next the spring and post a pic of that as to get an orientation of how they fit in the caliper.

Woodzie and Baz....the clip pictured on the right is the one that goes ABOVE the pads as an anti-rattle device. Be aware that the one in the picture is the right-side caliper anti-rattle spring, the one on the left-side caliper is a "mirror opposite" and can be identified by a small round hole punched near the edge of the clip (note that right-side clip has a half-circle cutout on the edge, at the upper left side of the clip).

    chacal,
So would the one pictured on the left of the picture be for the left caliper?

The large "L-shaped" object is the caliper retainer plate shim, it fits onto the bottom of the separate retainer plate and "shims" the retainer plate to the caliper body. There is also a smaller (much smaller), rectangular retainer plate shim that is used on the "other side" (or other "leg") of the retainer plate.

The larger (pictured) retainer plate shim has separate (mirror opposite) left and right side versions, while the smaller (un-pictured) rectangular retainer plate shim fits both the right or left side retainers.

Once the caliper body is secured to the "retainer plate" (via the capture pin), then it is the retainer plate that is actually bolted to the fork tubes. The retainer plate shims provide the proper spacing between the bottom of the retainer plate and the upper surface of the main caliper body.

Yes, it is a rather odd arrangement.......

Both came off the same caliper, on the right side, while sitting on the bike.
Another identical set are on the left side caliper.
As Chacal says, the XJ750 Seca caliper is an unusual two piece arrangement, with the upper section held in place by a round pin about 1/4 inch in diameter. A similar pin holds the lower section in place as well.
You can see the exploded drawing at:
    http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx

    Scroll down for Motorcycle
Then the year and then the model, which is listed as XJ750RH.
Then click on the folder for Front Brake-Caliper.
Zoom in and you can see the exploded view shows the anti-rattle shim between the two parts of the caliper but does not show the shim that goes in the lower caliper, above the pads.

Yes, and if you look at the 1982 XJ1100 front caliper exploded diagram, you'll see all three pieces (both retainer pad shim plates), the pad anti-rattle springs, and as an extra bonus, the retainer shim plate "shims" (supposedly available in three separate thicknesses).

Although the XJ1100 calipers carry different part numbers, their design is basically identical to the XJ550 and the XJ750 Seca calipers.......

Also shows the elusive retainer plate capture pin rubber boots used on all these calipers, previously unobtainium, but now available in our store!
