Ok so i did some reasearch, and found some fan favorite tires.

those being Avons... though I dont know what "model"

    and Bridgestone Battle Axe's

Can anyone give me ideas of prices on those?

I'm still not sure If I should go with Cheng Shings though... just as a break-in tire to work out the bugs on my bike, in case it falls apart.

Can someone tell me good places to get tires for cheap. I dont know if I should buy online or at a store... so on and so forth.

I just took the Cheng Shings off my bike, I HATED those tires. The front was knobby almost like a dirt bike tire and would pull with every little groove in the road, had a lot of handlebar vibration, etc.

I put on Dunlop D404's, great tire for not a lot of money. Bikebandit.com always seems to have a bunch of deals too, and I can't beat their prices on a lot of stuff.

Better check around before you order tires.

I was recently at a bike shop and he had a sign that read:

Got a good deal on an internet tire?
Good. We charge $70 to mount and balance it with no guarntees.

OUCH.... guess they don't like losing a sale to the net.

I personally had a bee-otch of a time removing the tire from the rim but I put the new "internet" tire on in about 1 min flat. I then followed the manual instruction of using the wall floor knee and hand method of blowing up the tire and making the bead.

I then ordered some yamalube at my local dealer and asked if they would throw my tire on for a balance real quick. The didn't charge me anything. However, I spent nearly $50 bucks on their stupid oil and gear oil.

    Good luck..

heres the story schooter, if those tires have been on there a long time there's corrosion and old rubber in the bead area that needs to be cleaned off or you'll get slow leaks and always have to be putting air in them or riding with low pressure, how you going to be cool with a tire pump strapped to the seat ?
think the yoyo at the tire shop is going to do it? if your lucky you'll get a once over with a wire brush
after you clean them up once they'll be good for a long time and you won't have to pump up the tires to go for a ride

Do yourself a favor and check out the reviews over at bikebandit.com on any of their tires. I did and based off that, I went with the Kenda 657's. Can't speak for the ride or durability myself but a lot of people seem to be happy with them for the price. Get yourself some tire irons and Dyna Beads and install them yourself...cut the middle man!

+1 on the dunlop 404's,you'll get around 15000 or better.

-1 on BikeBandit, compared to local pricing they are as high or
    higher after shipping.

If you pay more then $25.00 or $30.00 for mount and balance
you should leep looking or move to a more affordable area.

As for doing it yourself, if you have the funds you can make a
homemade bead buster and balance bar. You just need to
get a veriety of weights to start with.

Here is one vote for Bridgestone S-11s (Spitfires). If you mail order them you should be able to pick up a pair for about $120.

just a little off topic, but I bought a tire changer at harbour frieght for around 80$ saves a ton in the long run, also built a tire balacer from a set of bearings and homemade stand.
Since I replace my tires every season it was a good investment of time and money

Here is another vote for Bridgestone Spitfire S-11's. I only have one on the back right now but i absolutely love this tire. Had a Dunlop D404 on the back before and it was fine in a straight line, but on the twisties it made my bike dance. Kind of scary. I got an S-11 back tire off the internet for around $80 with shipping. My uncle mounted it on the rim for me so i only had to get it balanced which cost me i think 10 bucks at a local shop.

Compared to the Dunlop, the Spitfire was far superior in performance and comfort. I put a little over 3000 miles on it last season and it looks hardly worn at all. It rides great in a straight line and awesome through the curves. With the Dunlop, i could only go 60 max through some local curves. My car can do that. With the Spitfire tire, i can go 70 easily and it still feels like i could go faster but i dont want to push my luck. And for those of you who are reading this, i dont drive crazy. I just like leaning her over in the curves and letting it bite once in a while. Just for clarification purposes, my bike is a XJ 550. I hope this helped you out schooter. I Frigging love these tires.

Where in my post did I state to buy from BikeBandit.com? I merely stated to look at the reviews of various tires since they have good feedback on different tires.

Busting the bead doesn't cost anything and DynaBeads don't require a variety of weights to start with. 3 ounces of DynaBeads can be purchased for about $12 delivered from Ebay and should be enough to do both the front and back tires. No balance bar needed! The only tools you need to install a tire are a couple of tire irons and a wheel protector cut from a plastic Tropicana juice container.

front brake system is good, carbs are close enough for now
ordered brake shoes, airfilter, new tank, then yahoo!
