Just got back from the local Yamaha Stealer and picked up some new NGK spark plugs. The part number on them is correct which read BP7ES but the top of the plugs where the plug wires plug on are not the same. My old ones have a threaded top and the new ones have a bulbous look to them. I tried to install them anyway thinking the difference would really matter but the plug wire boots will not snap on, it appears the tops to the new plugas are dramatically larger. Did they give me the wrong plugs? or do I need to replace the plug boots to accommodate the larger more bulbous tops on the new plugs?

The plug top should unscrew off the threaded post.

+1 ^^^ Unscrew the stud ferrules.
And DON'T buy stuff at the stealership unless there are no other options. Buying plugs there is handing them free money. You can nip down the the local mom-n-pop's auto parts store and get them a LOT cheaper.
That or give Chacal a hollar, he is reasonably priced and will serve you well.

Ok, well that was easy! haha......yeah I am a noob and feeling it today! BTW I don't have any mom or pop shops like your refering to where I live. All we have that does anything other then Harley is the Yamaha stealership so I didn't have a choice. We do have a cycle salvage that will sell you parts but they were more expensive and I would have to wait for them because they would have to order them. Yes I could have ordered from chacal but the stealership plugs where less money actually and again I would have had to wait for them.

Got an Autozone nearby? They usually carry NGK plugs, including the ones for our bikes.

The bulby tip will unscrew, it's just a cap on the post. They can be on fairly tight, so hold the plug with a socket (from the other end) and get a pair of pliars. A little tension and grip and the end will loosen right up. Then, just turn it right off. If you go through a lot of plugs, you may find it more convenient to change the plug wire ends to ones that will accomodate the standard plug end. That way you put the plugs in, push the wires back on, and off you go w/o having to get more tools and waste time to pull off the four little endcaps every time.

I get mine there (Autozone) for like $1.91 each. Hard to beat that price...
