I have machine shop contacts and I'm wondering what are the rarest and
hardest to get XJ parts? I can have many items fabricated out of various
metals. Obviously larger order would bring the price down...

Based on posts to the XJLIST and some personal 650 Seca experience:

    1. Fuel Tank - Found a Replacement at a Wreckers
    2. Plastic Right Side Cover - Never lost one but know guys who have
    3. 650 Seca Headlight Assembly - Requires Wrecker Search
    4. Exhaust Collector/Crossover Unit - Mine is still ok

    - There are others..........

BTW: Most of the above are referred to as "Unobtanium"

I remember that - are you Cliff from the mailing list? I was on quite a long time ago - good to see another familiar name cross this forum.

I'd say the top 2 would be:
    - Right side covers
    - Backrest/sissy bar - with or without luggage rack - ESPECIALLY the one with the sliding backrest.

Large back rests would be my choice also. I have seen a couple pop up on Ebay a couple of times but with the price they bring (150-250) I think I will do without.

Backrest and some "better" form of a highway peg.

Im thinking of taking my engine gaurds off and into work and welding a piece onto them to put the pegs further down and forward than I can currently get them.

Then of course powder coat the whole thing black ;)

Right hand sidecovers for the Seca are unobtanium in NZ and out of the last 6 XJ550 I have seen only one still had the right sidecover and all the bike wreckers I tried had no stock

Luckily enough a mate of mine who does fibreglass work has a mould for them which is whereI got mine:D

One of the rarest is definitely the centerstand for a 1992 or any other earlier year xj600 seca II.
