Let me know if I'm way out to lunch here - as I know nothing about Catalytic Converters. I've searched the forum here and found no previous threads, so it makes me wonder if I might be out to lunch.

Is it possible to install a Catalytic Converter on my XJ?

Just wanting to do my part for Momma Nature.

While you're out, pick me up a sandwich !!

Seriously, It would plug up quick without an O2 sensor and an engine management computer to control the fuel ratio.
    It wouldn't work for long.

+1^^^ You will need to build a control system like SQLGuy did with his injection conversion. LOTS more work and money. May as well buy a newer bike that has the systems from the start.

    nice to be green, BUT

if you think your and every motorcycle rider is harming the environment, think again, we are but a minuscule fraction of the cause for "global warming" <---in quotations because it doesn't exist.

there's really no point to putting one on a bike in the first place because a properly tuned bike will not put out the amount of "greenhouse gasses" that those global warming belivers that say a 64 dodge coronet that has 2 more cylinders than an xj bike...furthermore all the emisions crap is to eliminate the "oxides of nitrogen" in exhaust which as far as i know is just another fancy name for nothing really harmful. honestly folks we survived longer when we thought we weren't doing anything harmful to anything, now we have all this stuff that is bad for us, bad for the planet, seriously? why worry about it when life's short enough as it is

OK, didn't mean to start a global warming debate.

    Consider my question answered. Thanks.

Actually you could and not hurt a thing.
It could easily take the place of the muffler.
If it's tuned well it would last forever.

Someone correct me here, but dont catalytic converters steal power? Wouldn't that mean needing to add more wrist? Wouldn't that just be conter productive? Just ride the thing and have fun, all you're putting out is the stuff trees need to survive.
