    Do we have a vacuum advance unit in our ignition systems on the XJs?

    Actually it depends, the 1100 with an older XS1100 engine has vacuum advance but newer 1100's and the XJ650 and 750 use electronic advance.

    Any way to tell if the advance is working? Im familar with vacuum advance units on cars, just never heard of electronic ones

    The same way, connect the timing light and see if it advances the correct amount at the proper RPM! If in doubt check the service manual for the procedure.
