I have rust patches on my frame especially at the joint welds.
Any recommendations as to stop the rust without completely stripping the bike ?
Are there any products out there that assist in treating these rusty spots?

    thanks

There are Lotsa Paints/chemicals in the local Auto parts store that solve this issue.
POR15 is marvelous stuff.. totally kills the rust....with a gloss black oem type finish... goes on pefectly with a brush...but.. a bit pricey, and you have to get the stuff designed for sunlight exposure or it will turn yellow white under the Sun's UV.

I found some info regarding Permatex Rust Treatment
Looks like it will do the job, think I'll try it.

I will give Permatex Extends Rust treatment a plug. POR 15 encapsulates the surface, effectively blocking more oxygen from reaching the metal surface to promote more oxidization. It does not convert the rust in any way. Extends chemically converts the oxide into an inert coating that makes a good primer base to be painted over. It does not prevent more oxygen from passing through the surface untill it is painted over. As the manufacture states, you must paint the surface 24 hours after you treat the surface with Extends.
That said, I had the same problem with my 650. I simply used my Pasche Air Eraser to beadblast the offending rust and painted it with Nebco Appliance Epoxy Black Paint. End of problem.
Lacking a blaster I would suggest you wire wheel or sand as much of the offending rust out then treat it with Extends. Once that has dried, paint it. In my experience, more than one coat of Extends may be required so watch and see if the rusted areas turn completely black before you paint. If they don't, reapply the Extends.
    Hope this helps.
