Okay, I ordered a Slipstreamer Hellfire, (really wanted the Spitfire, just looks cooler, but didn't see any positive reviews on here,

Edit: well, there are positive reviews, but not of the "I don't get hit by any wind in my face AT ALL" type reviews, more the "now the wind hits me in the face but not the chest" type review

...so despite that..) Rick seems to like his and I'm very pro-windshield, had a Windjammer fairing on my old bike, took it off, then put it right the heck back on. Don't like getting my helmet and self blown off, just my taste, but yeah, they look a little dorky.

Anyway, I found out some stuff I hadn't been able to find on here. Looking at this page:

    http://www.portablepct.com/fastlarry/banditfaq.htm#misc

The "square bar adapter" (necessary for 82 XJ750 Maxims and some 1100's that have "square stock cast" handlebars) Is really a thingy that goes in the hole for the mirrors! I looked all over trying to figure out how these hollow cylinders allowed a round clamp to go on square cross-section metal, turns out, it doesn't "clamp" at all, just runs the bars from the windscreen to your mirror mounting points, then your mirrors go into the top of the adapters. Raises your mirrors an inch or so.

So, that solves that mystery

The Hellfire is on my wishlist for this summer, Maximike. It sounds like we have the same bike, so when you get yours take a few pictures and post them if you can. I'm interested to know if the square bar mounts work with our Yamaha reverse mirror threads on the throttle side. Right now I have a Spitfire, but want more coverage for spring and fall riding.

In any case, keep us posted.

Just be careful if you ever ride in an area with stiff crosswinds when you have a bar mounted windscreen. I've had 3 events out here on the prarrie where cross winds have caused a nasty wobble to start. I had never had this problem while riding in protected areas but when out in the open a stiff breeze/wind can cause an oscilation in the bike.

This happened on three different bikes with three different windscreens. Since I installed my Windjammer I haven't had an issue.

I too get very fitigued after riding 20 miles or more with wind trying to blast you off the back.

Not to reopen the great windshield debate but I have seen too many things hit mine that I am very glad did not hit me!

Yeah, yeah, those are they. Regarding the question of reverse threads, they come with two normal thread and one reverse thread, that's why there are three. The guy from Slipstreamer e-mailed me when I asked about it. He also sent me a schematic from the instructions, which I might post in my gallery. Now the only worry that the bars from the windshield reach the mirror mounting points, the instructions say adjusting the handlebars might be necessary. I expect to have it in the next week, I'll follow up with pics.

As far as wind, I had a guy tell me with a small bike like this cross winds are a problem with windshields, but I never noticed it with the Windjammer, like Buffalo was saying. So I guess that's the idea with fairings. I figure the Hellfire is just small enough to not act like a sail, but big enough to make it a little less intense, especially in the rain. Also, Portland not so windy, but very rainy.

    Edit: here is the schematic:

Any update on your new windshield, Maximike? Have you had a chance to install it, and if so, any pics for us?

Has anybody used the slipstreamer square bar adapter kit? I see the adapters are supposed to screw in right under the mirrors, but the rods for the windscreen are too short. Trying to put a spitfire windscreen on an 82 XJ750 maxim. Note: I am not handy at all so I may be missing something obvious. A picture of a successful install would be great. Thanks

Follow-up, here's a cell-phone pic of bike with windshield on. As far as the question of rods being too short, I didn't have that issue, the only problem was that the angle of the mirrors is slightly different, so the bars are not exactly symmetrical. One issue I did have, the thing attaches with these ball and socket type things at the windshield, they wouldn't tighten enuf to clamp onto the shield until I shaved down the ball on the end of the rod a little bit.

Thanks for the info maximike. I bought an xj1100 in November and was wondering how to make a round bracket fit a square handlebar.
