I'm not sure if there is something wrong with me or maybe it's just the winter season getting the better of me but I just can't seem to get motivated to work on my bike this winter!! does anyone else have a problem getting started working on the bike in the off season?

I am working on it... but I have periods where its just like I don't feel it... But its the cold. Do you have a heated place to work on it? I can work on parts in a heated place, but I can't bear any long periods of time with the bike which is in a garage that remains whatever the outside temps are. I just cant get into it when its 19 degrees F. But the best way to motivate yourself, well in my experience, is to just force myself out there. Then once I get started I am into it.

Winter is such a drag though.

lack of money keeps me from doing what I want on the bike. Right now about all I can do is go out and pet it every once in a while. :)

yep happens every year about this time
pick something small to do every day, wipe off the chrome, put on the battery tender, check out your tool kit, anything
you'll be into it before long
i find it helps if you do it before you even go in the house after work
once your warm going back out is tough

The 3rd Monday in January is called "Blue Monday" .
The weather and the bills start to come in from the Christmas presents.
And the withdrawals symptoms from not being able to ride.

I had the cops show up once while working on my jeep in front of my house. We only have street parking. I was under it in coveralls with a open tool box and he asked me to crawl out and let him know what I'm doing.

I asked him what he thought i was doing and he left.

Home owners association. Meant to keep the neighborhoods nice by having a set of rules. Mostly in my experiance cause problems for people wou weren't hurting anything like Lopez.

home owners association. i have a garage, but its supposed to only be for storage they flip like a quarter when i work on my bike but the ass down the way who burns through the parking lot on his harley doesn't get yelled at and the guy with the garage next to me who is constantly working on his subaru never gets any complaints either.

they actually said in a letter that there's "a likely chance of carbon monoxide entering the unit above the garage" which is just laughable. there's no vent in the garage connecting anything to the upstairs unit and to think that having my bike running in the driveway is going to somehow get into their house is just insanity.

I just waited until spring and bought a heater (off season) which was on sale at the time. Most don't think of it until it's cold out and anything to do with heating is at a premium price. It's a kerosene type forced air heater and heats the shop in about 5 minutes when it in the single digits outside (three stall shop)
I also bought one of those 220v electric heaters that mounts on the ceiling to sustain the heat when I'm working (then the kerosene heater doesn't have to run) The combination is the best I've found. It beats the hellout of firing up a woodstove and waiting until the shop got warm.
It also hel[ped to block off the third stall with a large roll of heavy canvas where I park the bikes over winter. No sense in heating what I don't need to.
It keeps me motivated being able to work without heavy clothes on and not freezing my fingers.

Since we are past the shortest day of the year, its already light out when I'm on the way home at 5 PM.

I just installed the air box in the 83 750. I checked out the You Tube video on how to install with out pulling the engine. It went in just like the video showed. All I had to pull was the two carb manifolds on the right side of the engine. I just need to finish a few details and this ones a runner.

    Next the 1100 trans fix.

I'm generally pretty good about winter motivation, as I have the benefit of trolling over to my parents place and working on my bike in their heated garage. Heck, my father is usually out there most weekends working on a project of his own. It's a rental of sorts, he provides me a warm spot to work on my bike in exchange for a case of beer (which I, of course, help drink.)

I was having a hard time motivating but now I'm on a roll the bike is stripped to the frame and paint is being removed now, getting a bunch of aftermarket parts to spruce it up a bit and I'm on my way. Changing out the engine this year, and painting the frame to match my new paint on the tank and side plates.. I'll be posting pics later

I'm glad you asked...I thought he was talkin about the old lady  Sorry Lopez...dirty old man here :p
Lack of motivation for me is definitely the cold weather then the hot weather. Spring and fall tops em all.

I was having problems getting into it but I moved my bike from my unheated, dark shed to my basement. I also started carrying the keys around with me. They are my motivation.
