acewell gauges - what cable to get?

So as soon as I figure out which one I need, I'll be pulling the trigger on new gauges. I'd like to get a digital acewell gauge, so I only have one on the bike. If I remember correctly, we use ignition impulse tachometers. will this gauge work with that? I presume so

But if I am going to need to run the magnetic universal speed sensor, I'd rather go with a mikesxs pair of gauges.

I know a few people have experience with this baby, so input is greatly appreciated. I'd love to get a working speedo sometime soon :lol:

 

why don't you like the magnetic speedo?

 

I've got the 2752 on my ZX9 fighter and I'm using the magnetic speedo pick-up. It works perfectly (as long as you mount the sensor EXACTLY as per the instructions.....)

You can also mount the sensor on the rear wheel as an alternative, but the location that Polock has posted looks pretty tidy / inconspicuous.

 

From what I've heard, they can be somewhat inaccurate at lower speeds.

Is this true? or am I wrong? What should I do with the original speedo cable? I presume cap it, but what would I use to do so?

 

They are a digital read out - so they are always changing because it's pretty well impossible to keep a completely steady speed. Most inaccurate readings occur from incorrectly mounted sensors (too far away from the magnet, not in line with the sensor marks, etc.....)

As for the original cable drive, just go to a hardware store and grab an appropriately sized rubber cap. Should only cost about 10c.

 

Acewell or somebody makes CABLES that have the speed sensor built in; they screw right on in place of the stock cable but are electronic.

Great for an "inconspicuous" retrofit.

I'm not 100% sure where I saw them...

 

i've checked it against cars, other bikes with digital speedos and radar signs, it's right on, the cars seem to read fast
with the temp sensor you see how hot that engine gets after a run down the hiway then into slow trafic

There's not a specific Yamaha one listed, but the S10 one looks right (from memory).

 

I've got the Acewell on mine and like Hillsy, once you mount the magnetic pickup exactly as illustrated, it works like a charm. The tach works great as well and after fitting a real fuel sender unit in the tank, the gas gauge works perfectly as well.

 

Does the stock fuel sender not work with the gauge?

 

Just need to know if I can use that fuel gauge with our stock fuel level sensor. If not, I'll just get the one without it.

That and the magnetic pickups, and I think I'll be in business! bike will look so much better with no more atari cluster.
