After taking my XJ750RL right down to the frame, it is going back together. Just getting ready to put the motor back in. I noticed in the factory shop manual it recommends using new bolts on the drive shaft. Is this really necessary or just another way to help out the brothers in the parts department?

Not sure if it's just to bolster parts sales but I'm reusing mine when I put it back together. With a drop of red Locktight.

i reused mine on two bikes, no problems
wera90ex, be careful with that red stuff, blue might be a better choice

I'm not going to say don't reuse them.
But, I replace Yamaha Fasteners with new Fasteners of known top quality at every opportunity.

I've re-used my fasteners for years but I also VERY carefully inspect each one prior to re-use. If I find ANY deformation, stretching or pits, I replace it with 8.8 spec or higher hardware. Loctite (of the correct flavor for the application) is a MUST.
