In early December I bought a part on ebay from a bloke in the states which didn't arrive. A death in the family meant I had to return to the UK to deal with the estate etc so I was away from home for a few weeks, when I got back at the end of January the item had still not arrived. The seller assures me it was posted and ebay tell me it's to late for me to make a claim, seems you only get six weeks to put a claim in. And I can't even leave feed back!

So I'm 50 odd quid out of pocket bloody annoyed and I won't be buying anything else on ebay and paying up front.

    Faighaigh.

PS. It's good to have a moan.

Oh man that's brutal...did you use PayPal to pay for the item? If so, I believe they have some help for you...might be worth a try. Good luck my man.

paypal and ebay go hand and hand... I had the same problem once.. I bought a item from america... for my camero... anyway never recieved it.. filed a claim etc... but I found out it was too late.. I lost out on about 30£ at the time. I was gutted.

I have since used ebay but now realise that if I am going to get stung.. I am ready.. sending emails after 2 weeks and on the third starting the claim process... now ok some people have had items sent when they did.. and I did recieve one after the claim went through.. I contacted ebay and the seller and gave them there money... as I am the honest type. but I understand your frustrations... its horrible!

I have bought vehicles bikes quads and lots of parts of ebay and never been had look for the people who sell often and need the feedback to be positive cause its their job just thought i would share where i have had luck hope it helps

I just bought a product that was "new"
It was delivered without the safety seal and clearly had been used.
I emailed the seller a couple times and he wouldn't take it back.
I filed a dispute and within 10 minutes the seller agreed to a full refund.

It sucks that you got stung and probably more complicated since it's international.
I would check with paypal. They are the "same company" but I believe they provide different protection as a buyer on the financial end of it.
It never hurts to send a couple emails.

How much is "50 odd quid" (what the hell is a quid anyways?) and what's a "bloke"? I don't understand the strange world you talk about.
The ship maybe ended up in the wrong port with your parts still on them, who knows?!!

ok slang 50 quid is 50 pounds... brittish money!
like saying 50 bucks instead of 50 dollars.

    bloke is a man/person.

I am AMERICAN but I live in england now... god... some people need to travel the world more!!!! mate in aus means the same over here in england just FYI. which is a friend or a stranger.. in american you would just say sir or pal or bud..

wow this makes me laugh.. I really am laughing as I type this.. because I dont know how your asking the above question.. as a joke or really as someone who doesnt know.

but what gets me.. and I might get a beating for saying this.. is that when I was in america growing up.. and then even fighting for my country in the USN I didnt have a clue about the world till I got out.. and one shore leave I was able to finally see a differant view of life.. and cultures... its funny how america blankets itself and becomes wrapped up with just the inner culture.. yet neglects its own people... how many are still suffering from hurrican katrina?

sorry rant over but that just made me go off... appologies as I dont want to offend..

I thought he meant squid and typoed the 's' out of the word. I thought people count their squids over there. I know I keep good track of mine. Haha The way I look at it, though... we all have wierd slang. I just wish old west slang would get popular again.
Things like "I was Hornswaggled on ebay by some low down, duded up, mule ridin', yella bellied dawg. Iffin I had a mind to, I'd have a good notion to take him out to the hangin tree or have him thrown in the hoosgow. I'll see you in front of the saloon at high noon."

Thanks for the advice fellas I have mailed paypal and will let you know how things go. I'm sorry if my use of commonly used English language offended anyone but our language is one of the very few things the English have left.

Painter, are you the same person who asked me where Spain was a while ago as he couldn't find it on the map?

    Faighaigh,
No, I know where all the countries are (I've been to Europe)
When I asked about some of the terms you used in your first post, I was just razzing you about the way you talked and mearly needed some clarity on what you were trying to convey, that's all. Not meaning to open up a can of worms, you silly bloke, now go count your quid.

On the other hand, I am still short one squid.

As Far as Ebay and the original reason for the post....
I used to order through my boss/friend's ebay. Then decided to set up my own account. When I ordered through his, I didn't really have the time to go through feedback and from time to time I'd get a "brand new" item that wasn't new at all. I never had an item just not show up. But I have sure been hornswaggled!
When I set up my own account, I had more time with checking feedback, asking questions, and even, in the case of my gas tank, which was described as "NOS gas tank for 81-83 xj550 maxim-still in original box", I actually tracked down the phone number and location of the guys shop and spoke with him, personally, over the phone about the tank. Then I forked out the $395 + $30 S+H to a guy who had 100% positive feedback with like 5,000 transactions. I got the tank, packed in its original box from Japan and definitely brand new condition 27 or so year old item.

Always research the seller... especially if the purchase is going to be a big one. And always stick with sellers you have dealt with before when you can.
When there is less than 100% feedback read the negative feedback. There are impatient a-holes who expect an item to be the maker of their dreams and will leave negative feedback because... "received the headlight as described but had to actually install it myself" or "ordered item from france 2 weeks ago and still do not have it", etc.

I posted a gripe recently about sellers who tell actual lies on ebay about their items.

The bloke who sold my bike had good feedback but some close examination of his positive feedback showed him "Selling to" and "Buying from" the same person - a girl who lives in the same town (The same house most likely).

He recently sold a 1972 Honda 250 "Because he moved to a high crime area". The photos of the bike are taken outside the same house he lived in last year, when I bought the bike!!!

Right, Markie... and the best one can do is really research the seller as you have here. It is a perfect example and one I have noticed too.
I usually try to buy from ebay stores who have 5,000 or more sales with a feedback rating of no less than 99%
Bought a tank for $100 from a cycle salvage shop on ebay with a 97% feedback rating. The tank I got was swiss cheese... worthless and would have cost more to prep for a primer coat than a whole paint job. Looking through the ratings showed, in your case, this guy was a real con artist.
