Hey everyone. I just got a set of handlebars off ebay pretty cheap but they are 1" instead of 7/8". Anyone know where I can find an adapter or something. Also if anyone else is running 1" how did you get everything to mount on your bars? I'm thinking I'll just find a twist throttle from an old harley and use that. Would that work, also would it work for the front brake and clutch?

Well... you are really in for some modding. The 1" bars means you will have to go with different switches, control mounts, and grips, and so on. Aftermarket handlebars aren't that expensive. Seriously they are like $20 or in that range. If you are looking for OEM they are a little more but they are filled for vibration control. If its that you want more to grip, go with aftermarket handgrips. But you can find 7/8" bars anywhere that will go with any style you are looking for.
It is going to cost you much more to modify for 1" bars than to work with whatever style 7/8 you are looking for.

Some Jap cruisers run 1" bars, so you could probably adapt the controls off them....

But really, it's a ton of work and money when you could just get 7/8 bars.

Wayyy too much to change out, simply not worth it.

Do a Google search for BikeMaster brand handlebars, they come in a wide variety of bends, in 7/8"

I guess I should have mentioned that I was already going to have to get grips, throttle, mirrors, and a master cylinder anyway. The PO just let the poor bike sit for a while. I don't plan on it looking even close to stock when I'm done anyway.

You will still have to do somethign with all of your electrical on the bars like your turn signals, horn, start button, kill switch. You could re locate the start button pretty easy but the siganls you will still want on there. I would just go with a 7/8 you can get them any style adn any style of grip from ape hangers to drags they got em all.

I found a set of drag bars 7/8 on ebay for $30 in all last year. You should be able to find a nice set of bars fairly cheap. I kind of like the clubmen look for the rise because my drag bars cause my controls to hit the tank when I am backing out or manuvering.

OK - like I said earlier some Jap cruisers have 1" bars, so you will be able to use the switchblocks off them (with a bit of re-wiring).

I bought a 750 Shadow M/C off ebay a while ago and it was 1", so I know some Shadows have them (I think it was a 2003).

Still, it's a lot of work for not much gain

I have a 2005 V star and it has 1 inch bars, pretty sure all of the newer models do so you could use the swithces, I think I would look into getting risers from a v star also, probly cheaper than fancy billet chrome aftermarket ones.

Dragon...just ignore those naysayers...they're just jealous because they don't have the nads to do all the work to go to 1" bars 8) JUST KIDDING!!!

It is a pain but if your mind is made up, this might be helpful. I swapped out my stock bars for a complete custom look with these bars and harley controls

getting them wired in was a pain but here's the thread where I documented my results

I was able to get the bars, thottle, and grips cheap so I'll probably keep going with the 1 inch stuff. This is my first bike and I'm having a lot of fun building it and learning, and yes I'm hard headed, lol. Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone. I'll get pics up soon.
