Well guys, After sorting through everything it appears that the Maxim will be a parts bike. I just don't have enough room or time to start working on it.
I've started some Ebay auctions and will be putting more up soon.

If anyone has any parts they need let me know.

I need a set of the swingarm covers (little round chrome discs that pop into the frame hole) and the airbox end "covers".............actually, I need them for an '82 XJ650J and I know the swingarm covers are the same but will the airbox end covers "fit" my bike? I'm going to paint them so I don't care whether they are chrome or not, just the same size/shape/fit as the 650's?

I'm not sure if I even have either of those. I'll have to dig through the milk crates to see. As far as the airbox ends. I'm not even sure what I should be looking for. Have you got a pic?

Make me an offer and I'll probably accept it.

    Ditto

Unless you guys would feel more secure dealing through Ebay. Then I can set up auctions for the stuff you want and let you know when it's up.

I do have a gas tank and it hold gas. I know because there is old gas in there now. The outside is overall good, painter black put there is a section pushed down right behind the gas cap. That reminds me. I don't have the keys so I haven't been able to look inside the tank. Gonna have to call the guy I got it from.
I can take a pic if you want.

BTW: a little secret I learned from Buells. Those little round disks can be had in a lots of sizes from Home Depot or Lowes. Just go to the hardware section and look for filler plugs. They're made for filling holes in sinks and such.

I'm interested in the harness for dgmid61's sake, his harness is dorked and this seems like a perfect fix. I'm going to drop him a line. Hold that thought. I'll be right back to you!

PM me with your email address and I'll send you pics of the cluster and peg. I do know the plastic over the cluster is a littel hazy and could use some plastic polish to clear ir up.

I know for a fact the U joint is already off and sitting in my box of small parts. I'll check it out later this morning. If it's in good shape how does $15.00 plus shipping sound? If you want pictures PM me an email address.

    I'm holding :D
I don't think the harness has been cut at all. It's still on the frame and it is complete. The wires aren't brittle or gummy either.

Boy I gotta tell you guys, the response on this bike has been incredible. I've bought and sold Harley and Buell parts for years but have never had so much interest as this.
I'm glad to see some people will be getting use out of this :!:

What condition are the carbs in? I may be interested if they're in good shape.

They're pretty rough. The slides move but not very freely. The linkage moves freely. They would definitly need a rebuild.

The chrome on the outter two caps it pretty pitted too.

I checked out the u joint this morning. It's in good shape. The splines are not worn and the bearings are nice and tight, no slop.

I did find the swing arm caps. They're in pretty rough shape the chrome is all pitted. they could be sandblasted and painted. I'm still trying to figure out what the air box ends look like.

I do have both foot pegs
