    Just wanted to say hi.
    I just got an '86 xj650
This bike has been chopped & bobbed and seems to run good.
It is a hard starter, but from reading the forums, that seems normal.
Once you get it to start the first time it will fire right up for the rest of the day.
It has a small oil leak at a ??sending unit?? at the bottom at the engine
    any ideas?
    Thanks for the forum!!

Welcome to the best place to find out anything you want to know about an XJ. The one thing I might be able to suggest is to pull the carb bank off and clean the float bowls. If the bike runs fine the rest of the time just pull the bowls off and spray some carb cleaner in the bowls themselves. Spray enough to fill the bottom of the bowl and let soak for about an hour or more. Then try spraying carb cleaner into the little orphus in the bottom and you should see a stream of cleaner come out the larger hole. Make sure you wear saftey glasses. If you don't see the stream coming out that is possibly your starting problem. If I am not right somebody please correct me.

DON'T LOOK INTO THE BOWL WHEN YOU DO THIS!!! Point it away from you. If it is clean, the stream that comes out is STRONG. You don't want it in your eyes  ...
