My seepometer cable is making alot of noise. It seems to be coming from under the speedometer itself. I took it apart were the cable goes in under the cluster but can't seem to get the cable out. Is there a trick to getting it out from here? I tryed to put vice grips on it and pull on it while putting pressure on it but it wont budge. Any help would be appreciated.

Whoa there, Woodzie, no pulling with vice grips. The cable should simply unscrew from the gauge, unscrew from the wheel and slide out from between the gauge and handlebar. If not, there's something in there binding it. Just carefully check around and see what's going on before hauling on anything.

I've put some penitrating lube up inside the cable at the cluster and it has quieted down. baz you said it should slide out? I think the cable end is frayed and will not get past the opening in the back of the cluster. If that is the case will I have to remove the whole cluster take it apart to get that cable out? any other suggestions.....

Did you remove the cable from the wheel? I do believe it will come out from that end. It won't come out from the speedometer end because there is a brass crimp ring holding it in down by the wheel.
