A 1200CC TWIN holy moly and it actually looks almost practical!

Six speed shaft drive and only about 75lb HEAVIER than a Seca 650.

    Hmmm.

Think what they could do with a 650 or 750 version....
Bring it in lighter than a Seca 650...... great urban commado bike

i liked it better the first time, when it was the suzuki vstrom...yamaha is a bit behind. Is it me, or do adventure bikes seem to always have wannabe yuppie owners?

    Sounds about right :)

I did a test sit on a V-Strom 650...... possible the most ergonomically correct thing I've ever sat on..... just a wee bit tall for me, sit on the seat and your arms drop to the bars in a natural/comfortable position.

Not necessarily.I've been looking at getting a V-Strom so I can have a reliable, comfortable bike for longer trips riding 2 up.I don't want anything too big and bulky,I don't like the style of any of the newer cruisers (mostly Harley copies) and I don't like sport bikes. With all of that in mind, the V-Strom or something similar would suit my non-yuppie needs just fine.

The link in the original post should show you a shiny new Yamaha adventure bike.Yet another model that we probably won't be allowed to have.

This might not be the Bike we have all been waiting for, ... but look at the bright side.

Yamaha quit using Harley as the Model for what they thought was the best thing to build and sell.
Outside of being an Inlined-Twin ... there's a LOT of what BMW is marketing in the design of this Yamaha.

Maybe they'll consider trying to market another Mid-weight that got some Retro-Heritage.
    We can all hope!

Cool new bike, but I am still waiting for the 660 Tenere to be imported to this neck of the woods. We may be holding our breath a long time...

I'm liking it's looks so far - just curious as to why they went with a 1200cc inline twin instead of a V? The literature says "using an inline 2-cylinder layout to keep the bike compact and narrow" but I would think a V twin would do that better -- a la the V-Strom. I suppose it could just be marketing - BMW has the opposed twin, Suzuki the V, so they go with a parallel twin....

    Unified brake system! Cool!
Okay I haven't been paying attention to advancements in cars or motorcycles since... the early 90's so I don't care if this is old hat, cause the concept impresses me a lot!
    :) NICE!

Wow a shafty V-Strom!! If this is at the right price point, and can be as reliable as the Suzuki, this may be a V-Strom killer!

    Me likes!

I just wish the 660 was shaft as well :/

Here's what I got from Yamaha Motor Canada when I sent an email asking about this bike:
At this time a decision has not been made to import this model into Canada.

I am sure you understand the enormous undertaking it is to have a unit
built to North American specification (e.g. lighting, emission and down to
such mundane changes like bilingual labeling). We evaluate each model and
determine what parts and tools are used and can the sales figures justify
the costs. At this time a decision has not been made but if we hear that it
will be offered we will post it on our website ASAP.

    So there we go....

If they keep the price where it is, it won't sell anyways. I understand it's quite a technological jump from a V-Strom, but that wouldn't make me spend almost twice as much as a V-Strom.
