Looking for one of these cam shaft bolt down clamps. I broke mine and need one asap for my 650 Maxim 82. It is on the right side of the frame as you sit on the bike. The closest clamp to the carb rack.

Can anybody help a brother out? I already misdiagnosed the problem and bought a part I didn't need. (DOH!)

    Thanks,
    Rob

Okay, so this cap is on the INTAKE camshaft, and is it on the left or right side of the cam chain tunnel?

Sitting on the bike, It is the right side, closest to where you are sitting or nearest the carb bank not the one next to the horn.

I have one you can have, if you don't find one somewhere else.

That would be great Dan! Is it the one closest to the intake? On the right?

    I would appreciate it.

Hi, Rob. It is whatever one you want, as I have an extra head (too much exposure to radiation as a child).

No charge, I just need to borrow a few bucks for shipping. I will try to send it tomorrow, but more than likely it will be Monday. I can send you a pic to make sure it is the one you need.

    You and me both brother...

Will do.. I owe you one!

I think that once I get this valve ocver issue solved the bike is done.

I installed the new throttle cable today and it seemed to work like a champ. No more throttle sticking where the engine was ready to blow before.

If I can just get this thing wrapped up I am hoping to be riding in the next 2 weeks. We shall see it is still pretty nippy here in NH.

    Thanks again Dan

    Rob

Did you mention how the part got broken?
Was it just fatigued or did you overtorque or misalign it or something?

    Just Clean it surgically clean.
Wrap the Fastener with two (2) layers of Teflon Tape.
    JB-Weld that baby.

    That's not a Bearing Cap.
That's just a Bridge ... (It looks like).

Let the Fastener mold new threads.
Don't extract it until the JB-Weld is Cured.
The Teflon is your release agent.

Bridges just hold the Cover or act as Thrust Bearings.
You still have all the Pointer for timing.

Think of all the fun you'll have sanding it.

I am quite confident that the part you need will arrive at a Post Office near you before week's end. Please don't ask me how I know. I'm just good like that.

Your a good man Danno! (huge grin)
I don't care what they say about you. I just registered the bike today, All I need is that part and the cover goes back on and away I go!

I have been riding my other bike all weekend. Been a real nice break in the weather. Can't wait to get the Maxim on the road.

I will be eagerly watching the mail box.

I did overtorque it. My torque wrench is huge and rather than deal with it I thought I would just go easy. So much for that idea. When it says it wants 7 lb ft torque that's what it needs.

Yup. I use my inch pound wrench for that stuff.

I did the overtorque it - snap it off - cuss it - then cuss self - dance myself a few times in the 45 years it took me to get to this point in my mechanical education. I finally got the torque stuff down now. Just screw up other stuff these days. Ha! Always learning something new, even if it's wrong.

Ain't nothing better than personal contacts with extra parts and good information to help a man get his ride on the road. That's why I'm on this forum. Can't beat it!

Hope you get it together soon.

    Spring waits for no man!
