Hey guys, can anyboby point me in the right direction as to the sequence of syncronising the carbs?
The last sync I did was on a triple (XS750), where the 2 outside carbs were synced to the middle carb. However, I notice that the XJ900 has 4 carbs, with an adjuster screw for each, so can someone please tell me which carb marrys up to which, or is it just a matter of setting all four the same?
I have a four clock syncroniser.
    Thanks.

    The way I do mine:
I synch #1 to # 2, then #3 to #4. Then synch the right bank (1 & 2) to the left bank (3 & 4) then set the idle screw. Most of the time if the synch is off, the idle will come up a little, because your carbs are now balanced.

Cheers PainterD, do you have to remove the tank to do this or can it be done without removal?

If you have enough fuel line and little hands, you can block up the back of the tank, but it's easier to remove the tank.
You can set the tank on a table several feet away as long as it's as high or a little higher than it was on the bike.

Yes, I remove the tank when synchronizing the carbs (how else will you be able to adjust the screws?)
I made a test tank out of a large soda bottle using it upside down. I cut the bottom out and glued a gas line barb into the bottle cap and ran a couple feet of clear fuel line to the carbs. I hang it from my homemade work light stand. Or you can hang it from the handlebars with a wire hook.

DOH!! forgot about the screws.
    Anyway the update is............
Supported the front end of the tank and sycronised all 4 carbs. They are now all reading the same, and after playing about with the idle screw, the trike idles nicely at about 900 revs. I have just taken it for a 6 mile round town spin, and the idle hangs perfectly at 900 rpm's when stopped, and the whole performance when riding is much better, sound wise and handling.
Thanks to everybody for their input on this, I'll buy you a pint when I see you.
