My rear Spitfire is getting pretty smooth. Front still has some life left. Do y'all replace both tires at the same time? Tempting to find buy a Spit for the rear and be done with it. If that doesn't work out, recommendations?

if by 'some tread left' you mean it 'could use one' go ahead and do them both.

I have a set of pirelli's on my x that are awesome...satisfy the sport bike rider in me and are holding up pretty well. Cost me 200 to have them bought, mounted and balanced. I take the wheels to him...

Rmkopp, I think if you are replacing it with a spitfire go ahead a just replace the rear if the front is still good. I've been reading that tire manufacturers design their front and rear tread to compliment the other. I'm running mismatched now but have a set of michelin pilot activ order and being shipped. Looking forward to seeing if the handling improves. Also going back to the original factory sizing instead of a PO one up oversizing. I got them from the motorcyle superstore online.

I would definitely keep them matched.

I think it is going to be replacing the rear Spit for now. I'll look at the full set on the next go round. Plenty of tread left on the front.

Nail in my almost new 130 rear Spitfire. My choice was a new Spitfire, same size, or the proper 120 size in a Michelin Pilot Activ. The Michelin was available for $30.00 less, so I bought it. (I'm frugal).
WOW, huge improvement in way the bike corners, especially noticable on on/off ramps. The Michelin is not "squirmy" like the Bridgestone. I'm no expert, so I don't know if this is a result of the proper size being fitted, or if the Michelin is just a better tire.
Very happy with the Michelin, I'l be replacing the Spitfire on the front this winter.
BTW, the Michelin was $150.00 here in Ottawa, from a BMW repair guy......

Just my opinion, but I think the Spitfire is obsolete. The Bridgestone BT-45 is a better tire as are the Dunlop GT-501, Pirelli Sport Demon and the Avon Am-26. I think tires have progressed beyond the Spitfire.
