Will I be able to actually use a 14mm colortune with the 12mm adapter? Meaning does it fit down the hole and be able to get tightened, or is it best to have a 12mm colortune?

I have a 14mm for the 550s; I'm just going to buy a 12mm, they really aren't expensive compared to the value.

I'm worried about the adapter attenuating the performance somehow.

Gunson does not recommend using the adapter on engines with cylinders less than 180cc (each cylinder), which rules out anything under 750cc on the XJ models. And even then, they'd prefer that you didn't use it.....

The extra volume that the adapter adds to the size of the combustion chamber lowers the compression ratio, and it's not a realistic "tuning" tool under such a condition.
