I'm new here just bought a 82 xj650 about 13,000 on it im in the process for rebuilding the carbs just waiting for snail mail ... my ? is when i take off in 1st gear i feel a shift or like maybe a bushing kinda giving a little its hard to explane hopefully that kinda gives an idea other than that , theres no noise and its only a little bit not much but noticable i wonder if theres a bushing or if the u joint is going. any ideas im open to them.. thanks

 

650 what? Let's start there. Some history on the bike would help, too.

Get your bike info (year, model, mileage, mods/condition) into your sig, and put a general clue to your location in your profile. Rather embarassing to send an Aussie to Auto Zone.

Your problem could be all sorts of stuff but a whole lot more info is needed, as above. The ball is in your court.

One more thing, it COULD be a delaminated back brake "letting go." Read this: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html and check the back brake before any more riding. SERIOUSLY. Read the whole thread, I'm not making stuff up.

 

ive had the back brake and tire off the brakes r fine its a 1982 650 maxim
has around 13,000 miles on i havent done a whole lot to the bike ive only had it for a couple of weeks ,im in the process of rebuilding the carbs . ive replaced all the fluids rear diff motor and front brake fluid the bike sat in a garage for about 4 yrs .. 1 owner bike ,not much more i can give other than that ive heard that there is bushings somewhere in the drive train so i dont know.its the first shaft driven bike ive ever owned
