    Does anyone know which jet goes in which hole under the vacuum slide? I foolishly pulled them, then got hurt and can't remember which jet goes in which hole.

    Also, has anyone ever heard of an 'owner's card' that was issued to the original buyer from the dealership? The bike I am speaking of here has a MINT owner's card with VIN and date of purchase on it.

    In addition to that, it came with a factory service manual that is BLACK with gold lettering. I've never seen either of these. I also got 2 1985 magazines with articles on the bike in it. It was a find and a 1/2. I'm the third owner

    hmm your answer would be in the service manual. But as a general rule the main jet(larger hole) should go in the emulsion tube(brass) or center of the carb. the pilot jet screws into the aluminun itself.

    If you are referring to the AIR JETS, the larger jet is used in the front hole (pilot circuit), the smaller jet is used in the center hole (main circuit).

    One of the 550 Seca seats I got off eBay had one in the "document holder."

    Yes, that is what I was referring to. The x's you can't get mixed up. There is one I think it's a 107 and the other is a 265 or something like that. Thanks!

    Those are the wrong numbers! Here is what you should have:

    Years & Models: 1985-6 XJ700 air-cooled models
    Carb Manufacturer: Hitachi
    Carb Series: HSC33
    1985 Carb Model ID: 1FG00 (N models) or 1JJ00 (NC models)
    1986 Carb Model ID: 1NH00 (S models) or 1NK00 (SC models)
    Main FUEL Jet Size: #107
    Pilot FUEL Jet Size: #36.5
    Main AIR Jet Size: #70
    Pilot AIR Jet Size: #210
    AIR COMPENSATOR Jet Size: not used
    Starter FUEL Jet Size: #36 (non-replaceable, in float bowl)
    Main jet NEEDLE ID: #Y-20
    Main needle JET Size: #3.2mm (the main needle JET is also known as the "power valve" or "emulsion tube").
    Fuel Level in float bowls: 1.0mm +/- 1mm (.039" +/- .039")
    Idle RPM's: 1,050 rpms

    Although not part of your carbs, your valve clearances should be considered as part of your "intake system", so here are those specs, too. Note that valve clearances should be measured with the engine "cold", meaning 70-degrees Fahrenheit or less:

    Valve Clearance Intake: 0.11 - 0.15mm ( = 0.004 - 0.006")
    Valve Clearance Exhaust: 0.16 - 0.20mm (= 0.006 - 0.008")

    the jet numbers were guesses. I've got the larger of the two in the hole closest to the front of the carbs
