Will the throttle control from xj 400 work on xj 550?

    Hey all! Just picked up a 1982 XJ550 which i'm fixing up and I need a right hand control.......I can get one from a 1982 XJ400 for cheap which I know works, but will it fit and work?

    Well, the handlebars are the same diameter, so yes it will fit......

    But you may have to custom make a throttle cable to mate it to the 550 carbs. And you will more than likely have to adapt / solder the wiring to suit the 550 loom.

    It's do-able - just depends on how much you want to muck around with it I guess

    If you're just talking about the switch module and throttle barrel, it's probably close to or the same if it remotely looks the same.

    I have one from a 650 (allegedly) on one of my 550s and it's the same.

    What model/year 400 we could look in the fiche?

    hutch400 I just Google-mapped your location. I've been to Manitoulin Island on my Norton; are there even ROADS where you are?

    lol........yeah, there's a couple of roads here!!! Pretty much just one in and the same one out though.........once you hit the north shore of Lake Huron, you've got some nice riding there!!

    The XJ 400 that I can get the controls from is also a 1982 as is my 550......basically it's just the throttle barrel and switch module that I need.....

    It's going to depend on the model of 400: Your switch cluster is IDENTICAL to the XS400SG, SH and SJ (the old-style "400 Specials") and the 1980 XS400G.

    I may have a "pre-owned" cluster I could work something for you on, but I don't have a throttle barrel.

    I'll look when I get home and let you know.
