since my wiring harness seems to be modified from the previous owner, and i have no wires for turn signals, ive thought about creating my own circuit using the factory switch. i am going to follow this diagram: [IMG]

now i am also thinking of putting two stop lights on the rear and using those as turn signals/stop lights. i need some way to cut out the brake signal to whichever side the turn signal is applied to at that time so it will flash and im not sure on how to do that. basically something like this (however i know something is missing in this circuit):

I'm curious now, I've got the same problem, infact since most of my riding is on busy freeways I'd kinda like to have not so much brake lights but running (side marker) lights with two tail/brake lights. The original lights are toast and I have devised a more clever way to mount them out of harms way but the lights I have are single wire, grounded and the stock setup is two wire ungrounded. What could I be missing?

Your "turn signal circuit" diagram is ok, your brake light diagram is just flat wrong, if it's an actual circuit diagram.

Why not simply re-create the factory set up? Are you sure the turn signal wires are completely gone, or are they just unplugged and you don't recognize them? You already have a two-bulb taillight, don't forget.

A two-wire "ungrounded" signal uses one wire as ground. Single wire, grounded would be the same thing. A three-wire (or two wires using the housing as ground) signal is for running/signal lights.

i know right now, it is a two wire setup with the tail light housing being the ground. the brake light diagram is kindof an example of what i think i need to do, but i know i am missing something

You are trying to accomplish the same thing that needs to be done when a 5 wire tow vehicle (separate, amber turn signals) is wired to a 4 wire (red, shared turn/brake lamp).

There is a box available at any decent auto parts store for about $25 that does this. It has inputs of: tail, brake, right turn, left turn and outputs of tail, right turn/brake, left turn/brake.

If I understand what you are trying to do you won't need the tail light portion, just cap the wires for that.

And you're not allowed yellow brake lights in Florida, but I see them sometimes anyway.

oh no no, i didnt mean i was going to make the turn signals into brake lights. i cant stand amber lights anyways. i looked at that trailer connector today and i think im going to give it a shot when get this stuff all together.

Yes, the tail light converters work perfect for what your doing. Just make sure the signal/brake lights your using are plenty bright so you will be noticed when stopping (some older peeps get confused easily)
On mine I used an electronic flasher with LEDs. And being I still have regular filement front signals, I didn't need resistors to make them blink.

I switched from the two wire ungrounded lights to single wire but now the flasher doesn't work. Although the front and rear lights are wired parallel I wondered how come if the lights work the flasher doesn't flash or even with the stock setup when one of the bulbs are burned out the other dosn't flash either? I pirated the windshield from a HD and mounted negative ground L.E.D.'s to it and the rear ambers are negative ground also.

ok, so i found my turn signal wires and bought the converter box from the walmart, hooked everything up right (according to the diagram on the back of the box) but now all i have is tail lights. i check my wires with a test light and before the box i get stop signal and both turn signals, but on the output side i get nothing.
this is the converter i bought hoppy converter
