Ok after putting a few thousand miles on my Maxim since last July, I've been getting inspired to change a few things, and go a different direction. Right now it's pretty stock with clubman bars, the headlight and gauges lowered, and the turn signals removed. Had originally been thinking of more of a cafe style look, but now I'm thinking more along the lines of a drag or "euro" bar and some forward controls. I'm liking some of the more bobber type styles, but I want to keep the bike as a commuter bike, and want to keep a backseat.

While looking for a few ideas I came across this bike, don't know how I had never seen it before:

I think it's awesome. Minus the Motoguzzi tank. I think if it had forward controls it would just be the perfect example of what I'm looking to do. The "bobbed" style is nice, especially since the seat section of frame is unchopped and rear suspension was kept in the design.

Reduce clutter? Just like the 20 other threads about forward controls, changing handlebars, and Sportster mufflers?

Thanks for showing how big of an asshole you are in the one forum I thought would appreciate this. Sorry I haven't read EVERY THREAD in this forum to know it was supposedly posted twice.

Cool looking bike. Its great when peoples dreams become reality. Saying that, my biggest problem with that custom XJ is that it isnt functional. Its beyond me why people would want to take a perfectly good classic bike and turn it into a show only bike. Not bashing you brianf just for clarifications sake. It just seems silly to me taht people would spend all that money to make an awesome looking bike but they dont include gauges, lights, ect. I just dont get it

BINGO. Not just gauges and lights, but fenders too. Be a real barrel o'monkeys in the rain.

Very nice workmanship, though. Except for the fact that the guy is proud of the fact that he didn't use a vacuum sync tool of any sort and seems to feel that noise=power. Some vestigial mufflers would be nice.

I definitely agree, I think any bike needs to be legally and practically rideable. I don't have turn signals but am definitely keeping all gauges, head light, tail light, muffler, etc. Minimalistic is my style though, so no extra flash or gadgets.

This bike was mostly what I was aiming for as far as looks and riding position, but I would definitely have lights and gauges, and most likely some sort of fenders for daily riding.

all you need is a headlight and tail/brake light and you are golden. Oh, and Fitz, showbikes aren't ridden in the rain either...

Showbikes aren't ridden much, period. I always think of motorcycles as something to RIDE; these guys are trying to pass this one off as practical.
