    Scott here.

Been workin on an 82 maxim 550 for awhile, and I'll probably need some help in the future lol. It's my first bike. Got it for $180, and man was it a pile of work. I've ridden it occasionally, but it's still a project. Looking forward to getting it done!

Welcome to the site. Any info you need I'm willing to bet one of these guys (or gals) has it. I've learned everything I know, which isn't much, about motorcycles from this site. What all have you gotten done on it so far?

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Well, here's a list of what's been done so far:

-scrubbed off paint overspray (owner before me got primer all over it while working on another project)
    -new battery
    -new ignition computer
    -rebuilt front brakes
    -rebuilt carburetors
    -new front tire
    -new gas tank
    -new blinker/headlight switch housing
    -new clutch cable
    -new choke cable
    -new starter relay

As you can tell, it's in pretty good mechanical shape, just needed a bunch of little stuff. Until now; I was out riding yesterday and threw a rod (I think). This is a learning experience for me, so it will take FOREVER to fix. Whatever it is.

Anyhow, here's some before and after pics for your viewing pleasure:

    Dude that sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have a 550 prodject bike that we were turning into a bobber, I haven't heard it run. I'll check the odometer tonight and see how many miles it has on it and ask Josh if he heard it run before he started taking it appart. We kinda lost intrest in the bike and he may want to sell it as is.
I see your from GR I'll send ya a PM your name looks familiar.. 8)
    Thanks,
    James
